Only in South Carolina

Even though South Carolina is only five miles away, it’s a whole world away

“ah held mah BB gun jest like thee-asse, see what ah mean?”

So mom found out her 15 year old daughter had been having sex with a 23 year old for months when mom wasn’t home. The problem here is not that she is 15, but the man is black.

I hear cows have good tongue.

So if convicted, do they wind up on the sex offender registry?

How do cows search the internet to find out?

Is it against the law to distribute videos of sex with animals? How about if they are only cartoons and no real animals were used? What if you’re married to the cow – does that let you off the hook? What if you have a video of a cow carrying your handgun in a public place?

What if you draw a picture of Mohammed having sex with a cow?

They use Gateway computers…. (not the cheap emachines made of cow dung. lol)

Hey, this server resembles that remark.

Perhaps Chick Fil A is putting the cows up to it.

Someone is mad and/or curious tonight. The server is being hammered by maybe half a dozen spidering / DOS attacks from various domestic IP addresses allocated to web server farms. None in Utah, though.

I had had trouble accessing the site for a short time last night. … hence, my kidding about the emachines. 🙂

Art: Was this probe done -before- or after Google invited you to become a Glasshole?

            • Art Stone says:

The surge in non-human traffic started at 11:00 PM ET on the 6th. I was using another computer connected to the same router and requests to web sites and google were timing out. I’m on the more expensive residential account – around 24 mb down, 4 mb up if my memory is right. (the Glass invitation arrived at noon on the 7th)

All my IP based blocking of non US addresses (and TOR) is done on the server – so requests originating from blocked IPs would still clog the pipeline, but hopefully keep the server from being overloaded.

It was using multiple IP addresses from web hosting farms and rotating among a wide variety fake user agent strings to try to avoid detection.

I have a ton of experience spotting non-human requests and one of a kind defenses.

One IP seemed to be coming from a DSL account with the cookie of a familiar user, but I’m not reading much into that. It could have been a series of attempts to load the home page that got queued up behind the storm.

I didn’t look all that closely, but the pattern of requests suggested it was working from a database of web pages, not real time spidering from following links.

My best guess is it is the security company “protecting” the Cumulus websites. Last time I checked, my IP seems to be banned from every Cumulus web site, despite me consistently proving I’m a human visitor.

Why not reboot your router and get a new IP?

            • Art Stone says:

Two reasons – first, it won’t work. TWC does the same thing as Comcast – the DHCP server tries to permanently connect the MAC ID to the IP address. With Adelphia, I could only force an IP address change by spoofing a different MACID. Even if I did that and forced the IP to change, that would leave the site unreachable while the change propogates through DNS, which can take several days. There is a way to mitigate the issues with running a server on a dynamic IP, but then you are relying on a third party and exposing your visitors to monitoring by yet another third party.

Interesting – DDOS attacks? Must be they found out you are not a government or government sponsored site. See if one of the spiders looks like Obama or maybe Kathleen Sibelius.

I suspect if I didn’t block non-US IPs, it would have been more intense. My other computers hanging from the connection suddenly became unresponsive due to the traffic – the down side of hanging from a wired connection and not in a data center. There was no obvious pattern, it looked more like just someone trying to spider the entire site, which is pointless as it’s close to infinite in size and constantly changing. Whatever it was, it as constantly changing user agent strings to try to hide itself, but I’m a bit more clever than that at evading attacks.
