Can Rand Paul win?

The Conservatives that showed up at CPAC said more strongly than last year they’re ready to support a Libertarian. It’s worth pointing out that Conseervatives are only a portion of the Republican Party and not looked on favorably by the people in charge of the Republican Party organization.

For now, folks aren’t pushing back too hard in public, figuring Rand Paul is more controllable be keeping hum inside of the tent rather than becoming a third party distraction like H Ross Peeot.

But if there was a significant grass roots campaign to get Paul the nomination, will the “establishment” sit back and let Paul take the controls of the party or will they open Karl Rive’s opposition Research file and unload on the invader?

Despite both his father and he consistently saying they oppose all military force other than to defend the United States, I don’t see how he gets past the question of aid to Israel. Too much is at stake to let him stay with the position of “it’s none of our business”. The one thing working in his favor is it is becoming more apparent that the people around Obama are increasingly anti-Israel – so maybe neutrality is the lesser of two evils

George Will was on FNS today talking about this. Will said Rand is having the time of his life, as are the mass of 20 somethings that support him.

He gave an example of the fun Rand is having. Once at a party in George Will’s living room, someone asked him how he would solve the scarce number of American Eagles. Will said that Rand smiled said the way to solve the scarcity was to legalize the sale of Eagles.

Will might have thought Rand was kidding, but I personally think he was as serious as his dad was about eliminating the Federal Reserve.

Absolutely – this is pure Libertarian doctrine. Ivory poaching in Africa is a problem because the elephants are owned by nobody – meaning the only way to protect them is government paying. With a ban on ivory and no income, the cost of protecting the elephants is 100% burden.

If instead, elephant “farmers” were allowed to own elephants and sell the ivory, they would have the revenue to hire guards to prevent poaching and make sure the elephants stay healthy and reproduce.

well, I don’t know if Rand will win, but I sure as hell am not falling for the rifle in Mitch McConnell’s hand at the Cpac.

He’s a Goober, he goes right when election time is, otherwise, he’s ‘RINO’ Dem-light, or sell-out.
