Real or fake?

WODI-AM is located at 1230 kHz in Brookneal, Virginia. (Population 1,112) The licensee is JKC Media Ventures, based in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Last we knew, the station was broadcasting sports. In November, 2013′ the owners asked for the station to remain silent for 6 months due to vague problems with the transmitter. A few days before the 6 months was up in June 2014, the owners said the station had resumed broadcasting.

The office trailer looks photo-shopped. It hasn’t been leveled and the foundation (trailer skirting?) contact with the ground looks fuzzy. Ditto for where the stairs contact the grass. No mover would ever set up an office trailer this way, and if it’s a stick-built structure it would never have survived permit/inspection, especially not in Virginia. For visual reference the recreational trailer in the parking lot appears to be level.

Oh, my question wasn’t clear enough 😉

All of those quirks in the photo are the result of Google Earth trying to create an image that doesn’t quite exist.

The question wasn’t if the radio station is fake – the question is whether the web site has any actual connection to the radio station.

Based on the website – hard to say although I lean toward real based on the information on owner and staff. Dumb website to be sure – fix my Apple computer? I don’t think so.

If that is the station, I would bet on amateur radio – the antenna setup looks like it and the staff all have amateur call signs.
