Should you ever think Jimmy Carter is not a moron, reread his energy speech from 1977

Carter advises that all of the world’s oil resources will be gone by 1990, and the solution is to force electric utilities to burn coal. Shortly after this speech, Congress passed a law banning the use of natural gas for generating power.

Duke Energy, which is based in Charlotte and was my first employer after college now faces a massive environmental cleanup from billions of gallons of ash sitting in retaining ponds from 40 years of burning coal.

Now it’s Obama’s turn
