Roger Hedgecock’s whopper

And I don’t mean nitric oxide pills..

On the day Roger Hedgecock spent most of the show talking about Brian Williams making things up, first Roger got punked by some kid making up a story about “Duke Kelly”, a guy who was a newspaper publisher, created the Phoenix 40, is John McCain’s daughter’s godfather, and friends with Dan Quayle, flew jets for Israel… All just random crap.. Now at the end Roger did say he had never heard of the guy, but didn’t challenge any of it.

So we get to the GE and other big Obama media influence and how they control it all. Specifically he made the statement that  “9000 radio stations… Are owned by those 6 corporations”

  • GE – NBC, Comcast, Universal Pictures
  • News Corp  – Fox, Wall Street Joirnal, New York Post
  • Disney – ABC, ESPN,  Pixar, Miramax, Marvel
  • Viacom –  MTV, Nick Jr, SET, CMT, Paramount Pictures
  • Time Warner – CNN, HBO, Warner Brothers
  • CBS – Showtime, Smithsonian, NFL.com, Jeopardy, 60 minutes

There are about 16,000 radio stations in the United States.   While the above list have huge influence on TV, Magazines and Cable TV, how many radio stations do they “own”?

  • GE – None.   GE sold NBC radio when they bought NBC TV
  • News Corp – None
  • Disney – 18 (Radio Disney and ESPN) – they no longer own ABC Radio.
  • Viacom – none.   CBS Radio was split away in 2005
  • Time Warner – None
  • CBS – 113 radio stations per my latest count

So where did this “fact” come from?  It took 3 seconds to find.  It was from a Facebook post from Occupy Wall Street from 2012

Roger should know better – he has worked in radio most of his life.   I really am losing hope.

Double checking my work – I missed 2 stations in Annapolis and 5 stations that are simulcasting. There is no provision for LMAs – either CBS renting stations from a third party or leasing their stations to someone else. 120 is the best number at this point. CBS doesn’t seem to have any FM Translators. I’m also not counting HD channels, or Internet only streams

Roger Hedgecock has given his 30 day notice. I had done something very unusual for me – I sent an email to Roger (and got no response) – or maybe I did.
