No more facebook!

Facebook started blocking the server from getting updated Facebook counts.

Does any volunteer care, or should I just delete that?

    Seems like fighting a losing battle with an army of 20-somethings who think they rule the universe. I only use the delta to detect activity, but there are other ways. Delete away.

      Sort by Facebook is still quite useful, at least for what I do.

      I’ve commented the updates out so the real server doesn’t even try. The test server still works and you can still update the number by hand in the station editor if you’re a trusted volunteer, which you are.

    I’m reworking the standard page layout to force the show and station search into the standard header on every page. The change to the power of the station search happened a couple months ago, but I hid the light under my bushel basket.

    Out in my real life before I quit, I was criticized (correctly) for not being authoritarian enough toward the people who reported to me. Many people want to be told exactly what to do step by step. I want people to think about what they are doing and why, and come up with ideas better than I would think of.

    I probably partly am this way because of 60 years of media criticizing Germans of being too authoritarian. I’m genetically half German, but have no aspirations to be German – but play a rousing march with a heave cadence, I might start swinging my arms.

    One of my aha! Moments that hit me totally out of the blue was something Pat Gray said (and repeats constantly – and not the only “conservative” host… “If the Germans had won World War II, we would be speaking German today!”

    In addition to being factually based on nothing, it expresses the notion that the German language is inherently evil, and by implication – people who are German are inherently evil. There is a word for that type of thinking, but it escapes my grasp. German Americans like my father were viewed as potential German spies after Germany “annexed” Austria in 1938. German and Italian Americans made up the bulk of the American troops and factory workers that ended World War II. After 30 years of watching the History Channel, it’s easy to forget that.

    We are repeating history again. Today the enemy is Muslims living in America. Henry Ford heavily recruited Arabs from Syria and Lebanon to move to Michigan to work in his factories. After 100 years in America, their progeny probably have a presumption they are good Americans unless their is contrary evidence.

    My grandfather Richter faced the same. But, as he owned the only Meat Market in town and fed many having hard times, it was totally overlooked! 🙂
