Cool, I will try to update those Art.
and as a side note, I had a radio survey log that I finished up last Thursday. It was from Nielson. They wanted me to keep a log of the stations I listened to here at work, home and in the truck.
It was detailed log. The guy I talked to at nielson I told that I listened to streaming radio and he said that was ok, just write it down with the call letters of the station and if it was online/stream, or over the air.
I asked if it was ok to list, if I listened to Canadian station in Toronto CFMJ. He said yeah write it down. so I did,
I listen to a lot of talk radio during the day at work so I wonder what that will represent? I don’t listen to Beck anymore thats for sure.

It was cool, I was honest. I did a Arbitron log for TV like when I was a kid. There was only three channels and PBS back then. My old man let me fill it out. I remember writing down Gilligans Island on reruns after school everyday and ‘Baa Baa Black Sheep’ was in Prime time on NBC. LOL
    Best regards

Now the $64,000 question. Do you think you changed your listening behavior because you knew it was being counted?

Since you were not using a PPM device, that suggests you don’t live in New York City 😉

Our house was a diary subject for early TV in the early 1970s. Since my father was blind, his line was empty ? I remember making glowing comments about the show Lloyd Dobyns and linda Ellerbee had started called Weekend (in 1974). And so it goes.

      • Fred Stiening says:

My memory isn’t lining up. Ellerbee didn’t start until 1978. By then, I wasn’t living at home. Perhaps I was there for a weekend visit.

I used to watch Linda Ellerbee in the early 80s when he was competing in Larry King’s timeslot. She had a great sense of humor, keen insight and a wonderful writing style. At 3 AM, I don’t think there were many in NBC TV brass monitoring her closely and she seemed to have a lot of latitude. She was a great followup to Tom Snyder.

Hi Parrott. I’d like to know what you listened to. Not a lot of each minute on each day, but on the typical day? What do you listen to instead of Beck at 9-12 AM ET M-F? etc. During that timeslot, I find myself mostly listening to Chris Plante.

Fred, What do you think? Any way we could offer our favorite talk shows by timeslot with a comment about why we like those shows? I would like to check out shows that Parrott likes that I have not yet checked out because from Parrott’s postings, I think there is a good chance I will find them interesting if Parrott and I like many of the same shows that I already know about. Same for others here that have certain favorites.

I listened to the Buck Sexton radio show because Linds S here had recommended it several years ago. I am glad she did and I have enjoyed listening to his shows many times since.

Sweet! I can tell which pages Savage is reading out of his book!

Hi Art: Nah, didn’t change schedule. Left a lot blank cause sometimes I’m just not around the computer or radio. I don’t stream on a phone nor do I own a tablet.
LOL Roanoke is a long way from NYC.

I know I wrote down on the saturday evening that I was listening to KDKA in the truck for about 45 minutes while driving home after dinner. It was drifting into SWVA that evening.

Hey CC, yeah no problem. I do listen to Chris Plante from 9-12 He is hilarious. calling John kerry ‘Boltneck’ and impressions of that writer over at the washington Post, who sounds like Lurch , the butler on Addams family, or ‘Sheriff Mika Brezenski’, LOL

From noon to 3pm it varies. I may start out with some Rush Limbaugh just because I am busy and I don’t go over to the other computer to change off WMAL’s stream.
If its Mark Stein, I will listen.
Sometimes I switch to Alex Jones, but if he is ‘infomercial’ on his Herbs, oils & potions, or yelling, sometimes I move on to Dennis Pragar (WGKA) Not too often anymore. It just depends. I will stay on Alex’s show if he has a guest that is interesting and lets them talk. Sometimes I just can’t listen to Alex.
I had to choose a station for ALex jones and live is few. WBCR or KYAH. Good thing is they both play with VLC. If I could get WMAL to play with VLC I would be in High cotton !

After 3pm is weak. My diligence on listening wanes after 3pm. I have meetings late in the day at work so I don’t always get to listen to the radio after 3pm to 4pm.
I will start up KYAH and let it stream the fourth hour of alex jones, with VLC at 3pm and turn the sound off. Reason being at 4pm Caravan to Midnight with John B Wells. They stream a condensed version of the real show you have to pay and subscribe to. Its not to bad, generally a day or two late from original airing. I don’t listen to savage anymore since I found out from Art, he isn’t real.

One thing, I think KYAH stream gets overloaded at that time (4pm) eastern time frame, because you cannot connect or start their stream at 4pm or later. If you are lucky you can connect a little after 5pm but I think that stream is very popular
I think I may sign up for John B Wells, but I resist. thats about it during the day.

I may come back to the computer about 10 pm and listen to CFMJ . They play the previous night’s ‘coast to coast’ . If its way to goofy, I don’t listen. I sometime listen to WMAL again John Batchelor. maybe
If we’re home on Saturday night its CFMJ Spaceman, ‘A view from space’ but he can get annoying because I don’t think he likes the queen. LOL
My wife rolls her eyes at me when I listen to him. But its fun, especially with a little ‘Evan Williams’ on ice. I surf the al-gore information super highway when he is on. He’s four hours but I generally never get all four. Most the time its the last two, I listen to.

Sunday I listen to ‘Gun Talk’ with Tom Gresham Live, 2pm -5pm eastern on KNET Palestine, Texas. I do that while I watch my fantasy football team crash and burn.
I try to listen to live shows.
Thats about it CC, I am sure you know about those shows. They are not very eccentric, except ‘Spaceman’ , he’s out there : )
I wrote all those down in the log booklet.
    Have a good one CC,
    parrott

      Thanks, Parrott!

Up to 9 AM ET, I might be listening to Coast-to-Coast AM on KENI or KWIX. If you have SiriusXM, the new Breitbart News program on the Patriot channel is quite interesting.

I agree that Chris Plante can be hilarious. I think if him as a cross between Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage in terms of his “outrageous” comments. I still listen to Beck occasionally during that time as well.

At Noon, I have not found many good alternatives to Rush but I sometimes listen to Curtis & Kuby on WABC. They were together for years then went to different stations and I found each one of them unlistenable by themselves. …but when they work together, there is a certain chemistry that makes for an entertaining show. Although they disagree with each other on almost every topic, they seem to be friends and work well together to put together an entertaining show.

At 3 pm, I generally avoid Sean Hannity and prefer Sam Sorbo, Larry Elder, the Dana Show, or Savage. I also like the Tim Donnelly show on KIXW.

At 6 pm, I like the Lars Larson National show, but general listen to a repeat several hours later. I have come to appreciate Mark Levin more over the years as well.

At 9 PM, I generally like the Batchelor show if he is talking current topics. If he is talking about something prior to WWII, I often surf to a reply of one of the above shows that I probably missed earlier in the day, or over to Joe Pags or Laura Ingraham.

At 1 AM, I find myself listening more to Red Eye Radio or even Jim Bohannon than I do to Coast to Coast.

With all that, there is not enough time to sleep or work. Lol I do not catch most of those shows regularly, but when I am listening, those are my “go-to” places. I’ll have to check out the CFMJ shows.

Richard Syrett, a frequent guest host on Coast-to-Coast does a show in Toronto on CFZM. I just checked his website and it looks like he has a long list of new US affiliates that are not yet on SRG. The Toronto station has it from 11 PM-1 AM ET Saturday night / Sunday morning. SRG shows it on WEKY from 1 AM – 3 AM Sunday morning, but those are the only two hours of sleep I get each week. 😉

Since you mentioned KDKA, I’ll pass along the news that Wendy King just died at the age of 92. She is one of those voices I can still hear 50 years later.

Ed and Wendy King did a live callin show on KDKA in the evenings. It was somewhat peculiar in they didn’t put the callers on the air. As a child, I called in on the black rotary AT&T phone on my father’s desk. They would ask questions called “Party Prerzels” and people would call in to guess the answers. The couple times I didn’t get a busy signal, I got scared and hung up. Ed King died in 1971 at the age of 50. I’m thinking he was a smoker, like most people on radio.

Apparently Art Bell is cashing it in. He says he won’t be back. Some nonsense about someone shooting at him. I can’t find a news item about the shootings other than his own website. I think he could possibly be having some late night senior moments.
