My father always said that a disgruntled people, alcohol, and a public event often leads to chaos. He was a student in Montreal when many hockey riots took place. This is the most famous one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Riot

I’ve not been to PNC pavilion and probably never will. It is a grass amphitheater out by UNCC. Looking at it in Google Earth, I have a plausible scenario. The key is she mentions they parked in the parking spot where they always park, and the three guys involved work for the venue (indirectly). Here goes my theoretical script (Mike Wallace is a NASCAR driver in his late 50s)

      Guys: excuse me, sir
      Wallace: Yes?
Guys: your car is parked in our parking spot. The area behind the stage is reserved for employees and the performers
Wallace: But I always park here. Don’t you know who I am?
Guys: it doesn’t matter who you are, you can’t park here.
Wallace: I don’t care what you say
Guys: we could have had your car towed. Things have changed. Homeland Security has warned us against allowing unauthorized vehicles close to the stage. A car bomb would be devastating.times have changed.
Wallace: I’ll park anywhere I want. I’m no terrorist.
