North Carolina doesn’t get big forest fires. The climate here is annoyingly boring, except for the occasional hurricane. We get three inches or rain a month, every month. Except not this year.
The Catawba River has enough stored water to fend off any water shortage for 50 years, and agricultural irrigation is not in widespread use. But up in the mountains is another story. It appears someone is going around deliberately starting fires. Since this is such an irregular thing, North Carolina doesn’t have a huge firefighting presence. When fires break out for no apparent reasons, fireman are the logical suspects.
The smoke has apparently made it to Charlotte, although I wasn’t outside today to notice. I did notice an odd smell this morning that I thought was someone making coffee.
yes Hawk says the fires are being set by covert Russian Spetnaz in western NC and eastern TN. The were training in the Uwharrie National forest back in the summer but have moved to to the Smokey mountains. Allegedly Hawk got back channel info from US special forces watching the Spetnaz that are setting the fires.
He said it tonight, ( smiley face)

Well, we have a new issue to deal with. People starting forest fires to get YouTube views (actually Facebook in this case)

The fires are on Federal land, so the US Forest service is putting the fires out. They aren’t being fed by winds, and there isn’t a huge amount of fuel to burn, so they are making good progress.
