Rush Limbaugh will be delayed by an hour on WLS-AM in Chicago. Cumulus just agreed to an extension to keep carrying Rush on the former ABC radio stations (except WABC in New York)

WLS is also dropping Mike Savage, who was just recently in Chicago to receive his Radio hall of fame award

  2. Fred Stiening says:

Mount Wilson probably has the highest density of transmitters in the world. It is a 5000 foot mountain that overlooks Los Angeles. A female flight controller who sounds like she has no white privilege instructed an Asia bound aircraft to turn left, sending it toward Mount Wilson and into the path of an Air Canada Jet. It was dark, but the pilot climbed to get over the mountain in front of him, only to have the air traffic controller order him to stop climbing. Keep in mind, the pilot is ultimately in charge of his plane, not ATC. Pilots are the first on the scene in any crash.

  3. Fred Stiening says:

Cumulus is kicking Michael Savage from WJR (Detroit), WLS(Chicago) and WMAL(DC) – so far

  4. Fred Stiening says:

Robert Murphy was a big radio morning guy in Charlotte when I lived here in the 1970s. He has been working in Chicago ar Cumulus Media’s WLS-FM. His contract is not being renewed.

Guy Gordon, a long-time TV anchor and investigative journalist is replacing Savage on WJR. They always cut off the last hour of Savage for Mitch Albiom’s show. The morning shows on WJR always strive to include all local politicians, and they hold back on the questioning somwhat in the name of comity. They were never comfortable with Savage. Because of his demeanor, they were a little more comfortable with Hannity.

    • Fred Stiening says:

Several of the big city AMs only carried 2 hours.

I didn’t hear the show, but Mark Levin apparently is still spewing bile at Donald Trump. Selecting an ambassador to Israel who wants to move the embassy to Jerusalem and supports expansion of West Bank settlements is apparently not enough to placate Levin.

I expect Savage to view this as corporate revenge for his support of Trump. The Cumulus stock has continued downward. Comity is not the purpose of commercial radio – economic survival is. GM has always been very cozy with WJR.

  6. Fred Stiening says:

Norway has decided to do a forced end to analog FM. Europe has standardized on a digital standard called DAB – which is technically more similar to SiriusXM. All of the stations in the listening are are combined at a single transmitter location and combined (multiplexed) onto one big stream, then the radio chooses which portion of the big stream to listen to.

The US HDradio standard allows each radio station to have its own transmitter and just subdivide the signal and have up to 4 channels. If hybrid analog FM was dropped here, each radio station could have six channels and the requirement to avoid interference with adjacent frequencies goes away. In theory, every city could have 360 different FM radio stations.

  7. Parrott says:

yeah WMAL is advertising Savage is gone, Jan 1. they are going in house talent,
    Larry O’Conner from 3pm to 6pm.
Guess they will have that girl on with Brian wilson in the mornings now. I can’t remember her name.
I hope they bring Cigar Dave back and drop mark levin

This article from March is on the front page of My guess is you will be less surprised than I am.

    • Fred Stiening says:

So I could take this several different ways…

      – Surprised that Savage hasn’t updated his page in eight months
      – Surprised that he would post a link to MTV
      – Suprised that Savage thinks a story about Trump is a story about him*

I don’t really understand what happened on November 8th. My sense is a whole lot of it was “not Obama” voting even more than “Not Clinton”. Some of it was clearly people liking Trump, but I struggle to believe middle class white professional women in the collar counties around Philadelphia are influenced by Michael Savage

  9. haiti222 says:

To me the core part of the article was where the author talks about the similarities in Trump and Savage both recognizing an opportunity to play a similar part that they at the very least, only partially believe in. When he says some of Savage is Lonesome Rhodes, that did it for me. Of course Andy Griffith could be looked at as a shade of gray and I think this author also.

Savage used to have fresh news stories several times a day. You are right he is doing much less.

    • Fred Stiening says:

You’ve been around here long enough you know I believe Savage is an act. The jury is still out on Trump. His cabinet picks don’t seem to match his anti-globalist rhetoric.

One way of looking at it could be that the “new world order” is really just the United States all along, not some global conspiracy with us on the outside looking in.

  10. Fred Stiening says:

KYAD-LPFM deserves its own category, one which Jaymar can handle

Its programming is based on Messianic Jewish culture, broadcasting in Spanish in Bakersfield California
