Sad commentary on our cities. What aspect of our culture allows folks like the shooter to have little or no regard for human life?

Disrespect for the Judicial System. People feel they have to resolve their disputes in other ways.

News this week is that California passed or is about to pass a law to make it legal to knowingly pass HIV onto a sexual partner without telling the partner that you are infected, but if you perpetrator using the wrong pronoun even independent of the act, the perpetrator is subject to jail time.

Seriously, whether you are a liberal, conservative or a libertarian, it is hard to find people that respect our Judicial system. Even big corporations that donate money to s/elect their district attorneys and judges often require that their employees and business partners resolve their legal disputes outside the Judicial system through binding arbitration.

Just in the last week, the news was that Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, son of the Carter Administration’s Secretary of State, had decided no to prosecute Harvey Weinstein despite having a confession on a tape from a police sting operation. Shortly afterward, he was rewareded with a $10,000 check from democratic operative David Boies, an attorney with a history of representing Harvey Weinstein.

BTW- That David Boies is the same attorney that got rich destroying Microsoft and setting the example for the EU to destroy American tech companies. With Microsoft, he sued them because they had a monopoly on Windows computers. The Judicial system said he was right and penalized Microsoft and put them on a probation that effectively prevented them from innovating.

      The Media.

The guy who shot 2nd has been arrested. He is a convicted felon arrested 10 times in the past 3 years, and just released from prison. His car was spotted at 1 am (probably a license plate reader) and he led police on a high speed chase. He was driving on a suspended license and had a gun. Apparently, even with the rigorous background checks, he still acquired the gun.

The other guy has not been arrested, which I tentatively take to mean the police secretly wished he had a better aim.

Notwithstanding the #2 shooter — he fired too late for “self defense”– the 1st shooter should be arrested for attempted murder. He clearly used a concealed weapon. The recidivism of shooter #2 implies a system with weak punishment.

We don’t have audio, earlier footage, and the 1st shooter may well have had a permit. It is legal to carry a loaded weapon inside your car in North Carolina with the proper permit. There are overlapping rules depending on which county you live in. There is a state wide carry conceal permit that just involves a must issue process if you pass the screening process. Sheriffs have a different more restrictive process in each county to acquire a hand gun that varies depending on what the sheriff wants to do. The state permit overrides the review process at the county level.

It is fairly likely the just released from prison guy had a score to settle and it wasn’t a random encounter.
