The “Capture of a part of Brega” has fallen apart
10 “rebel” fighters were killed, but more importantly 142 were injured. A smart general wounds his opposition, but doesn’t kill them. A wounded soldier distracts fighters from the fight as they have to take care of the wounded. The wounded soldier returning home to a hospital becomes a warning to other young men who might want to be heroes. The wounded soldier will most likely become a drain on the enemy’s economy of the rest of his life (just look at the VA hospital’s budget and Veteran’s disability pensions in the US budget)
The other news event – if true – is extremely significant. The “Rebels” claim to have captured the city of Zawiyah
Zawiyah was a city that was opposing Qadaffi during the first couple weeks of the war, but was quickly crushed. The evidence of this “victory” is about 50 men standing in the market shouting “Allah Ahkbar!”
Zawiyah is a very large city, and is on the coastal road from Tunisia to Tripoli. If true, that probably cuts the last supply route into Tripoli. Perhaps more important, it is the end of the pipeline for the Western oil fields and the location of the export terminal for oil and natural gas from the west.
In the past (like in Brega), the pattern seems to be the Libyan army lets a group of yahoos in pickup trucks pose for the TV reporters claiming a victory, then all the other yahoos come running and gather in a big bunch – then the army opens up with a rocket barage and there are a bunch of dead yahoos. Time will tell.
If “the end” is coming, that’s the time at which a guy like Ghaddafi will become the most dangerous. Stay alert.
It’s all over. The mother ship of the “Fruits” of Islam is now hovering o’er and the gentleman jihadist, the reverend Faery-Con his bad own self, has donned his double-breasted battle tweed, with the magnolia boutonnière.
