The deed is done (more or less)

StreamingRadioGuide.com is now running on a $400 eMachine from Walmart (including 20″ monitor).   It’s completely on its own now, with the “real” server just acting as a replication slave “just in case”, with my Windows XP box  acting as a second backup.

This new setup has at least one feature that is not so great.   It’s dependent on my electrical power and internet service continuing to work.    In the event Hurricane Irene looks like it will hit here on Sunday, I might be reversing this process around Saturday and/or might be heading out of Dodge if it looks really bad – the projected path is right at my house.   I’m about 6 miles in from the ocean, and 90 feet above sea level, so storm surge is not a direct issue…. but 80 mph winds could be a problem.   The current path would put me on the weak side of the storm.   It’s always something.   The whole Eastern Seaboard being destroyed would be quite a boost for the economy!

Just a thought.. Good luck on the path of Irene, hopefully you will be on the mild side of it. Just a little info on the eMachine, my son in Missouri has had an eMachine for a few years now and really likes it, he has never had a problem with it, and he even took it to Afghanistan with him when he was deployed there for 18 months, it worked fine then and stilll works as good today.

I’m running Fedora Linux on it – the machine has Windows7 on it – but a “bare bones” Linux box would have cost as much (probably more) so it may spend its entire life without running Windoze.

Fairly big thunderstorm is about to go through – I hear thunder in the distance 🙂

I’m getting seemingly random mySQL errors. I’m beginning to think creating the install of Linux on one PC and moving to another (with a different processor type) may not be a good idea. My suspicion is it thinks it has another core it can use that doesn’t exist and when mySQL tries to spawn a new thread, it fails (very quietly)….

It;s not me this time causing SQL errors Art. LOL Its getting ready to rain here in SW Virginia(Blacksburg) too. That will be like the second time this month, if it hits the ground. Its dry.
Stay safe from the Hurricane, make sure you have some drinking water, and Wise Food from Dennis Prager , LOL
I just clicked off Michael Medved , he is a lib.
      Go eMachine, Go !
