Irene to cancel Obama’s vacation

Not because he has to do any work, but Martha’s Vineyard is kind of in some danger…

Whether this is a big deal is yet to be seen.   Weather people always error on the side of exaggerating storms.   If it turns out to be less of a big deal, everyone sighs relief.   If it is a big deal and the weather people didn’t see it coming, you blame them.

The detailed reports suggest the storm won’t strengthen any more.   Beach houses on the outer banks will get washed away, but that’s just a known cost of having a home there.    Long Island will probably get hit with a big storm surge (they can go quite far inland since the island is pretty close to sea level)

For now, it looks like the area here in Connecticut will maybe get 50 mph winds – blow over a lot of trees, which probably means power failures.    My process to switch back and forth is improving, so I’ll probably decide tonight what to do about the server.   The important stuff is now on an 8 GB USB thumb drive.    So unless I’m killed and everything destroyed, the web site should survive.
