So my plan was…. it can take up to two days for IP address changes to be noticed by the entire Internet, so I started the switch back to Chicago a little after noon….
For the geekish folk, what they meant is people using the web server started migrating to the server in Chicago, but the “official” database is still here in my place in Connecticut. So as people were doing things in Chicago, it was having to pull data out of my PC going through uVerse in the “wrong direction”. My plan was once things got slow in the evening, I would take the servers down for maybe 10 minutes and move everything back to Chicago.
Michael Savage changed my plans. The 6 PM rush (you were warned!) caused the mySQL server to freeze in Connecticut, and that locked everything up. So I had to do the switching process under the gun. Probably one or two loose ends still to find….
Now if you’re still bouncing off the CT web server, it has to pull the data from Chicago, but that’s the “right” direction with the great big pipe heading toward me.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank mySQL for mindlessly creating 112,722 empty “relay” data files on my XP machine. NTFS thanks you, too.
