“Mayor Michael Bloomberg ordered an evacuation by 5 p.m. Saturday for low-lying areas that house about 270,000 people.
Meanwhile, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said subways, buses and commuter trains in the city, on Long Island and in the northern suburbs will begin their final runs around noon Saturday.”
The maps I’m looking at say the Hurricane will hit (if it does) around late morning on Sunday.
Get out NOW!!!
Okay, I’ll take the train.
Sorry, we shut them down at noon.
Now just imagine this was an event without a 5 day warning and it was necessary to evacuate New York City…
This is particularly dicey for people on Lon Guyland. You can’t get off the island to the East…. if you head towards Manhattan you might be headed right toward the center, but maybe not.
High Tide on Lon Guyland will be shortly before 9 AM on Sunday. Hurricane Surge +High Tide = trouble.
Based on the current track, the winds on Long Island Sound will be blowing from the East, pushing the water toward New York City. Coastal Connecticut and New York City might see some very unpleasant flooding.
For now, I’m staying put.
