Take my radio station – please!

There must be a story buried in this.

WZEZ-FM is located in Goochland, Virginia – it is a Class A FM station (small)…   It’s located in the mountains in an area with a small population – it reaches the community of Lake Monticello (where my brother used to live!) and the signal barely reaches Charlottesville and Richmond.

So a while back, the station filed an application to donate the station for free to a group called ONE GOD MINISTRY-A GLOBAL CHURCH”.    That’s a little odd – since it is converting a station in the commercial FM band to a non-commercial station – but it isn’t that unusual.    What was unusual was the filing that the deal had fallen through.   Since no money was changing hands, that points to a different problem.

The Transfer of the license has been refiled – now donating the station to the “DELMARVA EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATION” of Winston Salem, NC… which is run by Nancy Epperson, the wife of one of the co-founders of Salme Radio.

Times are tough when you can’t even give away a radio station for free.

The next item in the list is the same owner is donating WGGM-AM to the Delmarva.

The man donating the stations apparently made a lot of money in real estate in the Washington DC area
