New York City gets the Dickey Axe

Tom Taylor reports that the Cumulus cost cutting machine hit New York this weekend.   Mancow had been hosting a weekend show.   He’s history for that local show.

Scott Shannon is an obvious problem for Cumulus.   He was the VP of programming for Citadel, as well as the co-host of the morning show on WPLJ, the voice you hear on the True Oldies syndicated voice tracking show, and the voice you hear a lot on Sean Hannity’s show.   He’s one of the hardest working people in radio and probably one or the highest paid.    Tom Taylor alluded to him getting a “title change” without mentioning the specifics.   I doubt it was a promotion.  Mr Dickey makes all decsions and has no need for things like VPs.

WPLJ lost its sales manager and overnight DJ – in total about 14 people terminated in the New York market.

So the “slash and burn” of radio cotinues.    The solution to the complaint of young people that the programming is crap?   Make it even crappier (but cheaper to produce crap)….

  1. Parrott says:

cumulus = cheap. One announcer on a morning show and satellite / Delilah mush the rest of the time. Bad but like you said, cheap..
