Newt and Hutsman held a colloguy today with Mr Huntsman in New Hampshire – exactly the type of thing Newt used to do at 2 AM on CSPAN in the 1990s. Using a professorial style of give and take on ideas to discuss an issue (foreign policy in this case, and Iran in particular), instead of a “debate” where the moderator sees his/her job to create dissent and division among the candidates for the entertainment value.
Newt brings his detailed knowledge of history and the mechanics of how the U.S. government works to the table. Huntsman brings business experience, experience being a governor, and is a Mormon.
Sure, Newt isn’t going to launch a campaign to repeal Roe v Wade, and fight to put prayer and Bible readings back in the hands of your local NEA teacher’s hands, and probably doesn’t care if “Under God” is on the money. The people who think Michele Bachmann is the bomb will never agree that Newt is a “good enough” Christian, so he isn’t going to try to convince you otherwise.
But people are noticing that Newt actually knows what he is talking about, isn’t fumbling over who is on the Supreme Court, knows the names of world leaders, knows the history of the laws of the United States, and knows history (like in the Middle East) in signicant detail and doesn’t need a teleprompter to sound like he knows something.

My 2 cents: $1 billion + David Axelrod + Newt’s considerable baggage = Four more years of Obama and probably a Democrat House and Senate as well
I don’t disagree with your assessment of Newt Gingrich…but I can’t help but think that if he is the nominee the election campaign will focus on his shortcomings and history in DC. With Romeny as the candidate, I think there would be a greater chance of the focus going onto the failures of the Obama adminstration. Once again, an election with only the lesser of two evils as our choice. In my gut, I don’t see how Gingrich stands a chance against the Obama machine.
