Layer on layer of irony… or something

Well, now that we know that Michael Savage is officially on Premiere Radio’s list of unacceptable shows for a large swath of American businesses and Premiere has pulled all of its ads for two weeks on all stations (did maybe some stations tell Premiere to “shove it?”)…

So I’m listening to the streaming of Michael Savage on WAAV-AM in Leland, North Carolina, a station owned by Cumulus Media.   If you’re rusty on your geography of North Carolina, Leland is across the river from Wilmington NC, a few miles in from the Atlantic ocean.

That part of North Carolina is full of important military installations, largely because of geography.   The best known is Camp Lejuene, the Marine’s basic training facility just up the road in Jacksonville, NC.   A little to the south is the Army’s Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point with its 16,000 acres for storing ammunition.   This part of North Carolina has a lot at stake on anything about the role of the U.S. Military.

A good part of the show today was dedicated to the orders to US Marines in Afghanistan that when Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta visited, Marines were not permitted to have firearms in his presence – so as to not have Marines with guns and the Afghans not having guns (which would show we don’t trust the Afghans to not shoot us!).

All very interesting…   Savage then went on a rage saying that we need the Military Draft back and there is no way we could have won World War II without the draft.   A Ron Paulish caller pointed out to Mr “Follow the Constitution” that there is a prohibition on “Involuntary Servitude” in the 13th amendment except as punishment for a crime, to which Savage responded  with the predictable “So you wanted Hitler to kill all the Jews?” *sigh*

Then we went on a tangent as often happens discussing the history of China and how the Mandarin leaders destroyed the country of China when a few powerful leaders fell out of touch with the common man [oh?]

All of this narrative is just the prelude.   It’s the end of the hour.   I think this was a local “avail” (a time slot for a commercial), but either way…  it was an advertisement for SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program – aka “food stamps”), trying to recruit more people to sign up.

I checked.  I don’t qualify.   You can only have $2000 in cash or cash-like assets to get them (living month to month with total dependency on your government checks)

Art: I liked your note the other day about Michael Savage eating at Wendy’s with his dog. Getting in touch with the common man, that was funny he’s not talking about politics. You do need a break from politics from time to times, cause it always disappoints.
I hate those PSA ad’s you mentioned you heard on WAAV. So annoying. Like the WIC one. We want all muslims to immigrate to U.S. , sign up for food stamps. Subsidize them for having eight kids, give WIC and Medicaid and allow muslims to take us over with the subsequent generations that will hate America and have Intifada in the states.

It wasn’t so much as a note as a description of what he was saying at the moment I was testing the show. Savage has made it clear he doesn’t like what he is being forced to do – talking about “Conservative” politics but he can’t seem to get up the nerve to say “I’m through with this charade” and quit.
