The result has been the destruction of an entire industry that was a large source of seasonal workers, mostly from Mexico with much of America’s food now being grown in Mexico and Central and South America, which means flying the produce in cargo planes.
Stockton is one of the more important cities in the San Joaquin Valley, and they voted today to declare bankruptcy. Since cities have the ability to continue to tax their citizens, it isn’t certain that the bankruptcy will succeed – a judge may just tell the city to raise taxes. Part of the city’s motivation is to break agreements with its unionized workers.
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania tried this and has not yet succeeded.
The city filing bankruptcy will likely raise the borrowing costs of other cities, especially in California.

The thing about Stockton is: We have a “very” liberal City Council , however its suppose to be non-partisian, they are true politicians, and apparently with the leanings of certin council members you could say Politcally correct as well.
Part of the problem is that they don’t have one iota of the meaning of arbitration so the city employee’s union’s have had a stangle hold on them since day one.
Since the Delta water has been shut down to towns like Mendota and other small farming communities, we now call “dust bowls” Nothing much has really changed, except for the one of the newest small details, ( by my pool service man) I have just been informed of.
We are drinking the water from the delta ( I couldn’t figure out for the life of me, why all of a sudden for the past few months, I havent been able to clear up my pool water it alswys has a light haze to it ) NEVER , EVER has my pool been anything but crystal clear.
But I digress, Stockton should have been bankrupt 4 yrs ago, We are # 2 in the crime rate and homicide business, That, has almost become the norm. (laid off police officers) and homeboy’s family’s that moved here to be close to their inmate loved one’s
However, on the lighter side hiccup’s and all, We are still the leader’s in agriculture for Asparagus and Tomato’s

Its like we elect monkeys to these town councils, state houses and Congress. They are never the smartest or brightest.

Ahhh thanks Parrott … I try or stay sane, but from time to time I become sightly horse from yelling and screaming at The Record (local liberal newspaper) and the local news television channel . In fact, I just read yeasterday after being at the pc, most of the morning, we had “our” 32nd homicide this year on Wed morning. (the fun is never ending , no surprise there) Im surprised the police responded, it could have been the City Animal control officer instead.
San Bernadino is about to authorize bankruptcy as well
