The Goose Liver war

The Civil War didn’t really take off until South Carolina exerted force to get the Federal Government to vacate Fort Sumter, which South Carolina considered to no longer be part of the United States.

This story is throwing a really bizarre wrinkle, and I don’t see how it can’t become tied up in the Presidential race quickly.

For you peasants out there, foie gras is the liver of a duck or goose that has been force fed in order to make the liver full of fat.   In its current campaign to avoid dealing with the state’s real problems, the California legislature outlawed foie gras in 2004, but the ban didn’t go into effect until July 1st of this year.

The Presidio was a Federal military base  located at the base of the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, the epicenter of people who want to tell people what they can’t do and how to live their lives (unless it involves gay sex).   You may have heard Rush Limbaugh mention the Presidio in the past as the place where Mikhail Gorbachev landed to set up his New World Order after having liberated Russia from the Soviet Union (uh-huh).

So the above story is telling us that the Presidio Social Club is going to defy the California ban on Foie Gras on the belief that the California ban cannot be enforced against a restaurant operating on Federal property.    So you mere peasants must stop eating your fatty goose liver, but the leaders of the world are too important to be troubled by the treatment of geese forced to be fat.

So does Mitt Romney eat fois gras?

Eventually the liberal faggots (how insensitive of me) in SF will stop eating and determine fruits and veggies also have rights. How very silly.

Pate d’foie gras is quite delicious with crackers and a cold Dortmunder. I am sure Obama knows The Bakery in good ole Chicago. Back in the 70’s the owner was not friendly towards blacks and oftentimes when blacks came in he would sit with them to determine if they knew what they were ordering (he also had an incredible collection of wines incl Chateau Laffitte Rothchild). It was not a matter whether they could pay or not but a matter of principle. Back then the owner could get away with it today he would be accused of all kinds of crimes against humanity. Maybe the place doesn’t exist any more. But… Obama remembers.

Greetings from the condo of my boss on the 43rd floor overlooking North Lake Shore Drive and Lake Michigan. My African American boss (who I’ve known since 1983) is married to a successful black business woman who apparently knows quite a lot about wine, and I don’t mean Ripple.

So I have no desire to return to the Good Old days – the eventual resolution of disbanding the Soviet inspired Communisty is to have successful black entrepreneurs be the people that young blacks aspire to be like – not collectivists like Jesse Jackson or people in the drug/gang culture.

Interesting. Goose liver. How about tripe? or liver and bacon? How about blood pudding or giblets and gravy?

A sign of civilization? If starving, I am sure I could be forced to consume the above, but other than that…

Interesting analogy with Fort Sumter. Being from the south, I’ve heard the term “states rights” most of my life. But “states rights” is truly a misnomer. Governments don’t have “rights”. Only PEOPLE have (God given) rights. Rights are “unalienable” – i.e., they cannot be transferred. The people lend power or authority to government as needed to protect rights. So the cry “states rights” should really be “states powers” versus “Federal powers”. In the original pre-income tax constitutional republic, the people lent power to the states, who in turn lent power to the Federal government. The election process allowed the loan of those powers to be modified or rescinded every two years.

So exactly which liberties and unalienable rights are being secured by the California foie gras ban? Do farm-raised geese have a protected right to receive a healthy diet even when their purpose on this earth is to be slaughtered for food? Is there an unalienable right for citizens not to be offended by certain restaurant menu items? (Watch out Korean and Thai restaurant owners, you’re next!) Do poultry farmers have an unalienable right to raise and sell geese for food? Do restaurant owners have an unalienable right to serve goose liver to their patrons? Does the Federal government have the authority to intercede on behalf of the Presidio Club owners simply because the restaurant is located on Federal property?

These are the questions that make Libertarians out of former Republicans and Democrats. 🙂
