Marvin Hamlisch has died

That has nothing to do with radio, just another bookmark on the calendar of passing time of people our age.

I really enjoyed Hamlisch – his music was never “cookie cutter” stuff – each song was able to find new ways to experience those notes on the scale.   The emotions and the music were intertwined as one.   Perhaps most importantly to me as a wannabee pianist, Marvin would appear on live TV and actually play the piano himself and could improvise new songs at the drop of a hat.  He truly was a prodigy of our generations.

He was one of a kind.
I used to enjoy seeing him on Johnny Carson.

To succeed in such a cutthroat business and to be a recipient of numerous awards all the while pretty much staying off the radar is testimony to a humble man.
    “One – singular sensation..”
