Joe Mazza has died

Unless you’re a station tester, you probably don’t know who he was. He had a syndicated show on Genesis (the network dominated by Alex Jones) on Monday morning 1-4? AM – the deadest time of the week in radio – typically that’s a time the engineers have a window to turn off the transmitter and tweak the spark plugs. At most, I think at one time I found the show on three stations – one of which is a few miles from me.

Joe was an old timer who used to operate a limo business in Boston – as a result, he got to know a lot of people in show business in the 1950s and 1960s. If you remember Joe Franklin in New York, he’s kind of the radio version.

One of the memorable shows I remember listening to was the woman who did a lot of the work and voices on the cartoon show Rocky and Bullwinkle – talking about her dead husband, and inside stories about the show. The show didn’t mean much unless you grew up watching it back in the days of there only being 3 TV stations.

He died April 27th of a heart attack. Sebastian the Wonder Dog has lost his master….
