The New York Post has picked up this rumor
NY Post Story
Back since about the crash in 2008, CBS has let it be known that if the deal was right, they would sell their small market stations. This is mostly “code words” for “those unworthy stations added to CBS when Mel Karmazin temporarily took over CBS until we got our Sugar Daddy Sumner Redstone to get the company back”. Mel has been running SiriusXM for the last decade and just was released from that job. CBS has not made any attempt to really integrate the stations formerly owned by Infinity in with the prestigious CBS + Westinghouse “heritage” stations.
Mel and Cumulus couldn’t be more different in their approach to radio – Mel took failing stations, paid big bucks to genuine talent like Howard Stern and Don Imus and generated huge ratings, especially among younger listeners. Advertisers lined up to hand over baskets full of cash. Cumulus thinks the way to prosperity is to fire all of the local talent and provide 24 hr/day centrally produced syndicated programming, making ad revenue from selling groupon like “deals” via Sweetjack’s annoying barking dog.
Any sale of CBS stations to Cumulus would bump into FCC ownership caps. I tend to think the CBS Radio denial is genuine. Cumulus hasn’t yet proven that their strategy would work, and CBS is going to want cash or at least part ownership in a joint venture.
They may want that cash in renminbi and not the soon-to-be nearly worthless Federal Reserve “Debt” Notes that Americans are forced to use.
According to International Monetary Fund, deputy managing director, Zhu Min….
“With China’s economy gaining global strength, the renminbi is set to become a global reserve currency, Zhu Min, deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund, said Tuesday at an economic forum in Hong Kong.”
With other partners such as Russia, Brazil and India on the bandwagon China can force the Feds to backdown and surrender their Reserve Currency status. What other choice do they have since the OPEC countries, who are sick-to-death of the Feds, will gladly start selling oil to anyone who has renminbi.
Payback is coming. Get ready for $6 to $8 (or worse) per gallon gasoline prices. Oil producers in America better get to fracking as much oil out of the ground as possible.
The new appointee to run the Department of the Interior, which includes the BLM has been running a not for profit co-op that sells outdoor sporting gear. Her company with 10,000 employees, based in Portland OR sells $700 bicycles – you can buy Women’s versions or Unisex. She was a major backer of the gay marriage movement in Washington State. She has been mountain climbing in Antartica.
In the late 1990s, she was the President of Commercial lending at Washington Mutual (WAMU), the company that crashed in June 2008.
She believes that freeways should be green ways and the land on either side should be government owned, so you don’t have those annoying gas stations and fast food places destroying the natural beauty of the land. She views capitalism as generally not a good thing, as the need to make profits puts pressures on the management to not focus on the world we all want 100 years from now
I resided in Antarctica for 2 seasons, in the shadow of Mount Erebus on Ross Island, in McMurdo Sound. I have walked on the porch of Scott’s Hut and peered into the interior. I rescued a person from the treacherous ice flows surrounding the hut.
So, I suppose that experience gives me the qualification to say the following: If the government wants to build a freeway through the land in America, first pay the landowners a fitting price for the land the government confiscates. Once on the freeway, a traveler that does not care to have have annoying gas stations, motels and/or resturants along the highway, they should be prepared to just keep driving all day/night without food or stopping for any relief or rest. Good luck with finding anyone willing to “sacrafice” those few comforts.
ah! There is a flaw in your thinking.
Freeways are built to create jobs for union construction workers – they’re not actually meant to be driven on and cause global warming. You should be taking the Portland trolley and high speed rail to go any place you need to go. If you think you want to go to a place that isn’t reachable by public transit, perhaps you could apply for government permission to get an internal passport and arrange for acquiring gasoline supplies from government stockpiles…. or even better, drive your electric car 20 miles a day and then stop overnight to recharge.
I’m glad I could clear that up.
Free trade bad. Big Finance crimes good: http://www.seattlepi.com/local/connelly/article/Loan-fraud-at-WaMu-Too-Big-to-Prosecute-The-1747382.php
Fraud at WaMu? I’m shocked I tell you. At least we know with a woman in charge of commercial lending, her part of the bank wasn’t doing anything wrong! Men Bad, Women Good.
