Yikes. That is pretty unsettling. So is the place a restaurant/mortuary?
First thing to know is it isn’t inside the city of Chicago. Since it’s relatively close to where I live, I would like it to be good. There is an Old Country Buffet in the area that isn’t closed yet, but it’s maybe a 20 minute drive.
My attitude is I’ll almost always give a restaurant a second chance. This time just repeated my first experience. The total lunch “crowd” was no more than 10 people. The food was incredibly bland. Lunch menu was meatballs like you can buy in the supermarket, fried chicken, Greek chicken. “Roast beef”, stuffed shells. Veggies – corn, mashed potatoes, tater tots, Mac & Cheese, mixed vegetables, garlic potatoes…
There was no salt in any of it – the garlic potatoes tasted like they were in vinegar. Pizza had no toppings and very cheap quality. Corn was surely just the cheapest variety poured from a #10 can and heated – no salt, sugar, butter, etc… Utterly without any taste.
By the way, lunch ends at 3 PM – coincidence? It’s 2:31 now. If I don’t survive, it’s been nice knowing you.
Wonder if Bloomberg, that old salty, has started thinking about NaCl yet…
I’m not dead.
My niece, a recent graduate from Columbia Medical school states it as a matter of religious belief that she will not ever put salt on food.
I asked her how she gets iodine in her diet. She didn’t seem to understand the question. It’s not a coincidence that early human civilization were along the oceans. Creating trade routes to securely carry salt inland is a necessary step to having a sustainable civilization. Iodine is a critical nutrient for the thyroid to operate properly.

But medical schools teach nothing about nutrition. It’s much more profitable to diagnose thyroid disease, surgically remove the thyroid, and put the patient on synthetic thyroid pills for the rest of their life.
Americans need salt and Americans need calories – no doubt. But as a whole get to much of each. Salt is a major contributor to hypertension and other health issues.

Glad you are still alive, Art (aka – Fred)!
By the way, the salt, today, is totally different from Sea Salt. If you can buy un-refined Sea Salt, the taste is incredible!
Do you suspect the sign is the result of a translation error?
Speaking of which, there’s a Chinese take-out place just across the street from the train station in my little city. Their latest menu, however, indicates that they are located “across from the Asbury Park Translation.”
Is it a vegetarian Chinese take-out place? I’ll bet they have something there for you, fresh from the garden!

What?!? You don’t like or want “fresh” vegetables?

No, it was just programmed poorly. The message is constantly changing – which makes no sense unless you’re on a corner. Driving by at 35 mph, you have at most a couple seconds to get a driver to see your message.
The prior message was
Dinner served
Every day
After 3.PM
The next is
Funeral
Catering
Available
(Something close to that)
Instead of doing a clean wipe between messages, it updates the first line to say “Funeral”, then a couple second pause for no reason, winding up with the above message.
I would have never figured that out. It actually makes sense now…. and shouldn’t that say 3 PM CT so that we on the east coast are not confused. 😉
Even though I’m in Central time and the computer is, the computer is set to Eastern Time, just to confuse everyone. However, most of the times you see are adjusted to your time zone.
Looks like Central time to me… unless it is that Eastern time in the far northwest of Indiana. 😉
Oh that’s right – for some reason I can’t figure out, WordPress doesn’t adjust for DST – you have to adjust the DST by hand.
So more correctly, the computer thinks it is in ET, but the wordpress program running on it doesn’t.
Indiana adopted DST after the late Jake Hartford ridiculed them into getting with the program. The entire state now does DST, the only issue is when they start being on Central time – the counties that border Illinois, especially the NW corner are on Central time, although I think there is one town in a county that decided to go to Central time that had refused and stays on Eastern.
On the flip side, there is a station licensed to Illinois that is actually targeted to a community in Indiana on ET so all of their schedules are in Eastern time.
Another piece of radio trivia – there was an AM station north of Toledo that had different tower sites for daytime and night time, one was in Michigan, the other in Ohio. Try explaining that to the tax man.
I’m still attempting to to digest why anyone would accept ‘as a matter of religious belief’ that one would never put salt on food ‘as a matter of religious belief’. Just does not compute with me. Help me to understand……
Speaking of religious beliefs, does anyone know if the Vatican supported the Kyoto Protocol? Holy Smoke!
I assume that was a rhetorical question

Proverty is the result of the failure of governments to provide resources to Catholic Social Services, not the result of parents creating more children than they can afford.
“Freedom is the Distance Between Church and State.”
Pope Francis holds a masters degree in Chemistry. I would consider it a great sign if he announced that God has revealed to him that the world is not only 10,000 years old and “Day” in genesis just means “a very long period of time”
Take 10,000 years and multiply it by 1,574,000 years.
Dr. Gerald Schroeder earned his Doctorate at MIT and has come up with an interesting theory to explain the Universe is 15.74B years old BUT, that time period can be reconciled with the Creation account as found in Gensis, the Torah. Of course as with all theories, no matter who espouses them, there are a few questions to explain. At least he has an interesting theory and is a bonafide scientist with over thirty years of experience in research and teaching. He earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees all at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The mp3 linked below is about a 58 minute lecture and I found it interesting…..
