Des Plaines flood warning

I live maybe three blocks from the Des Plaines river on the ground floor. I wondered if this building has potential flood issues. I guess I get to find out now.

Is it pronounced “dez planes” or like Herve Villachez said, “de plane”?

    Go here:
    https://msc.fema.gov/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/FemaWelcomeView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

Under the banner, upper left, enter the street address of your building, this should bring up a link to the FEMA flood map panel for that area. Open the and zoom-in if necessary. Be warned however this is a government site and it is quite clunky to navigate at times. Best of luck…..

Looks like it will stay within the forest preserve but this is supposedly a record setting flood. Damn George Bush and global warming!

It’s still possible the basement might flood. Since the web server is in my apartment, if we lose power, the web site will go down.

I heard as I was waking up that they have opened the gate to Lake Michigan to let excess water flow out of the Chicago River. Say Hello Asian Carp!

Reading a soggy newspaper is no fun, imagine reading a soggy blog. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For a good time, google “Chicago deep tunnel”. It was started in 1975, they hope to finish in 2029 – and the water district is discharging more sewage now than when they started building it

I just watched a video with a guy taking a tour of one part of the tunnel
    – it was bored through limestone about 250 feet underground. For some odd reason, when the run water through it , the limestone walls disintegrate. Weird
