Oreck stops sucking

David Oreck has a fine product by all accounts – high tech vacuum cleaners that people will pay up to $600 for because they are so wonderful – they’ve been widely advertised on radio and TV as long as I can remember.

Back in 2011, the FTC said Hello to Oreck and asked them for actual proof of their advertising claims for things like claiming their super duper deluxe model would help stop you from catching the flu (which isn’t spread in your carpet). They agreed to refund $700k to consumers.

Oreck totally missed the bagless vacuum revolution – as market share plummeted, they walked away from their own direct marketing organization and started selling at Walmart and other big box retailers. Thry’re down to a 4% market share even though they have a 70% brand name recognition

Today, they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Maybe they should have tried a Sweetjack offer. They did try Groupon last month and sold 170 refurbished units? I don’t understand why President Obama allowed this to happen.

Why buy a vacuum when there is an endless supply of illegal aliens? Of current batch of 11 million being discussed in Washington, only half have a high school education.

Immigration isn’t a bad thing, but should we be sending home college graduates with PhDs so that the wealthy don’t have do their own yardward and vacuuming?

If you are middle class or working for a living, you may reach a different conclusion than if you are extremely wealthy,

If it were not a matter of just trying to use your tax money to buy votes, why doesn’t Congress allow the illegals to stay permanently but prohibit them from every becoming citizens and voting? A college graduate with a conviction for marijuana you can not vote – instead we want our country’s future determined by people without a high school education? Where is William Randolph Hearst when we need him most!?!

The big lie about immigration reform is “Path to Citizenship”. Make a requirement to begin that process that they must sign paperwork to renounce their Mexican citizenship and state that they recognize US sovereignty over the Southwest United States and see how fast a large portion of the incompletely documented migrants lose interest.

Another aspect of this – by allowing a 13 year process for non citizens to remain in the country with only the promise that at the end they’ll actually follow through, that’s a lot of time to give birth to an entire generation of legal US citizen children. Once they have children that hold dual citizenship, good luck on getting the parents to go back home.

Canadians play the same game – they come to the United States for jobs, then make it clear their contempt for their ignorant uncultured gun loving neighbors, intermarry with US citizens in the border areas and then pick fights over things like whether the term “americans” used by people in the United States is an insult to Canadians.

The Canadian issue is much more subtle because most Canadians speak English and share more cultural concepts like a legal system based largely on English Common law.

Amnesty for violating the US immigration law should begin with a lifetime ban on citizenship.

If the US were serious about enforcing the laws, it would confisgate the illegal gains of the law breakers- take their cash, bank accounts, cars, homes, and hold the banks accountable for the “know your customer” laws.

Removing the financial incentives is the first step toward immigration reform- building a taller wall and expanding government to patrol it is just big government Republican nonsense.
