      Squeal like a water buffal0!

They look dangerous to me. A herd running at full speed could do some real damage. Guess that’s why in Florida, it is a felony to break or cut a fence containing animals. Wonder if it is a felony if your fenced pasture is not sufficient to contain your animals?

Don’t take this the wrong way, but why the hell are there “Asian” water buffalo in Florida in the first place? Immigrants farmers who can’t afford a tractor? Water buffalo cheese? Water Buffalo fighting? Water Buffalo racing?

Why are there pistachios in California?

You raised an interesting question….”Why are “Asian” water buffalo in Florida in the first place?”

Short answer to a complicated answer is this, there are all sorts of people with all sorts of ideas in the world, who desire, for one reason or another, to raise exotic animals. The “Asian” water buffalo’s are really not that exotic, but someone desired to raise them, found a way to purchase them, and had a ‘farm’ to raise them.

These ‘exotic’ life-forms are typically owned and raised by folks with money, perhaps more money than common sense would accommodate in ‘normal’ times, but then who among us will assert ‘we’ live in ‘normal’ times?

Why does a bear shit in the woods?

          • Art Stone says:

More than one “introduced species” starts out this way – someone wants a pet or exotic animal promising that they will never ever let it escape into the wild. Once a domesticated animal becomes feral, they can become quite the danger.

If you left off “Why”, then the rejoinder makes more sense, although the answer recently has been “no” and “It depends what you mean by Italian”

        • Art Stone says:

          California is just plain nuts

        • Art Stone says:

Because EPA laws against contaminating a watershed with fecal matter don’t apply to bears – yet

The Civil War had only recently ended, the memory of the assassination of President Lincoln was still fresh. Railroads were being built as fast as the country could. Journeys that used to take a week bouncing around in a stagecoach or riding a horse now could be done in a day in comfort. The world was changing and needed reassurance that everything would work out because it was part of God’s plan

Of course it was God’s plan. So was shooting buffalo from the trains… or 80 years later, shooting people:

All aboard, we ain’t a-goin’ fishin’
Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
      And we’ll all stay free’

      Praise the Lord

You appropriately realize that I don’t believe in predestination and an interventionist God who is going to save us from our stupidity. If a person goes to the top of the Empire State Building and jumps, that’s free will. When they hit the ground, that’s God’s law in action. If another person dies when they land on him, that’s unfortunate.
