I have driven the Autobahn’s for thousands of miles, almost all of it over 100 mph. The first thing I noticed in the clip that you always see over there and seldom see over here is the use of the turn signal when changing lanes. The second is that people respect lanes rather than form a blob of cars spreading across the highway. My understanding of German law is that in most places, you can go as fast as you want to, but if you don’t signal before making and move, you will get a very serious fine. Same for not being in the right lane unless you are actively passing. Passing someone on the left? I understand you might find yourself in handcuffs for that.
Bottom line is that everyone knows that at 150 mph, you will probably not have a second chance to make a mistake and they treat it as life and death.
You truly watch some random things on YouTube! How did you even stumble upon this?
It was on the today’s most viewed list on the old iPad app. Nothing gets the 8 year olds on Youtube more active than the chance to call all Germans Nazis 70 years later.
The title is misleading – clearly the traffic for the most part was not reacting to his siren, but that traffic was stopped and other emergency vehicles had already been through. According to one comment, this is the law in Germany – unlike the US where you’re told to move to the curb lane, there you are supposed to move to either side to create an opening in the middle.
There was a brief glimpse at the end – it looked like the issue was an overturned delivery sized truck. Unless it was hauling something hazardous, I’m thinking in the US, they would have tried to keep the left lane open to avoid the kind of backup in the video and divert new traffic at the prior exit onto secondary roads.
On closer review, it might have been a propane truck with a fire problem like a tire had caught on fire
Hey , Foyle is back, That’s good.
Oh c’mon CC, don’t you like the blob of cars here in the states? Two riding beside each otehr for mines in the interstate, with a string of cars behind them that cannot get by?
LOL I hate that !
wish I had the 30MM cannon option on my QX56 !
Hey I am going to ride over to the railroad yard and look at the Norfolk Southern heritage unit painted in the Lackawanna railroad scheme. It looks like the post merger colors of Erie-Lackawanna except it says Lackawanna. NS has a Erie diesel painted in their scheme.
