Anyone still care about John Derbyshire?

John hit the spotlight briefly when the National Review axed him in April 2012 for a negative column about the deteriorating relations between blacks and whites.

I still subscribe to the podcast, but the main reason is it is extremely effective at putting me to sleep. Despite his wit and insights, I really struggle trying to embrace that an Anglophile immigrant who now (apparently) is living on an island near Greece really has any useful insights about topics like immigration reform. He has no skin in the game and maybe never did.

I used to listen to his podcast some (heard about it first on this blog). I found him to be somewhat witty on a least a few of his commentaries.

I have not listened to him for 4-5 months now, life has just been too busy for listening to podcasts (or posting on blogs 😉 ).

    Dittos on foyle’s comment.
I’ll still read his stuff at Taki’s web site but no podcast,

I find him quite insightful and witty, and I don’t miss a podcast. While I don’t agree with him on everything, he brings a unique perspective to many issues and tends to highlight below-the-fold stories you don’t hear elsewhere. He will also provide evidence, statistical, historical, scientific, etc, for his viewpoints.

Back in the early days of his show, Rush Limbaugh lived in New York City, which meant he was in regular contact with people who didn’t share his world view, reading the NY newspapers as show prep, coping with day to day life (albeit not like he was living in Nacodoches TX). Now he lives in Florida behind a gate and works only with people he hired and pays. Bo Snerdley is there to challenge his opinions, but not so much.

That’s the same feeling I have with Mr Derbyshire – I greatly admire his courage at opposing our military interventions, but at the same time he isn’t going to be personally affected by Obamacare, rising food prices, unemployment, deteriorating schools, the fight over Common Core curriculum, gun law changes, interest rates, etc. I don’t care that some Islamic kid in London spray painted graffiti on a statue of King James (hypothetical)

The schtick about his “assistants” and the local goat farmers are a distraction and make me doubt if he even is living where he says. I don’t know – other than last night I remember nothing after the opening theme music. Zzzzzzzz
