I went to Walmart to buy skittles…

And when I got home, this is what I had bought. Boy, is my face red.

If you’re curious, the two skillets cost $13.

If you’re curious how that price is so low, they were made in Thailand.

Can you still say red face or red skin? … I guess you are far enough from Washington DC to get away with that. football season is almost here

    • Art Stone says:

Yes, I was just about to post my annual “football season is here” message, but since I no longer actively recruit testers, it’s not so important. At least football is mostly constrained to be only on Friday night, Saturday afternoons and Sunday – unlike baseball that’s on almost every day for 8 months a year. The exception is the NFL Monday Night game (also with extra Tuesday and Thursday games), but since they are all on TV nationally, they aren’t very important to radio – and are usually on the sports stations, not the News/talk ones.

Speaking of testing: Last night I found the site does not list http://www.970wath.com/programming.html

WATH I just added to my internet radio as a favorite because it streams the Jim Bo show for about 6 hours nonstop. It is next to my KLIF that streams John Batchelor for 6 hours nonstop and KIXW that has Coast to Coast until 9 AM ET

They’re listed as a Classic Hits station which is what they are during the day – they go to 26 watts at sunset – being a post 1986 AM license, they are required to broadcast after the sun sets, albeit you can’t hear the station more than a few blocks – it looks like they may have picked up an FM translator – these things are showing up everywhere. I still expect the FM translators to morph into people being allowed to turn off the AM transmitter and juice up the FM power to full license status.

I’ll add in the program, but news/talk programs on non-talk stations won’t show up easily – you have to use the alternative view of showing news/talk programs rather than stations – or set the format to all formats

          • Art Stone says:

WATH-AM goes back to before 1979 (that’s when the FCC started computerizing their license information). So either they have always had low power at night or added it after the Reagan era FCC started to relax the rules that sustained the 1928 AM radio monopoly

That would be good. Thanks for the ad. What I normally do is look for nighttime stations that have shows on for an extended length (repeat) … that is how I do my presets.

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

Worried that if you didn’t list them, you’d be subject to the wath of God? 😉

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

I understand you probably have one field to indicate the main format of the station. A second field to indicate whether the station has talk programming would help… and a field for each program indicating what type of program it is (conservative, business, progressive, etc) at the program level would be icing on the cake.

The challenge is trying to find a balance between features for the power user and avoid making it too confusing for the drive by user.

The reality is there are very few people who loiter here – the vast majority arrive from Google looking for some specific show, mostly the top 5 conservative talk show hosts.

Have you ever been to this page? 🙂

            http://streamingradioguide.com/internet-radio-by-format.php

It’s in the links across the top on the main/home page. What it does now is dumps you (based on your choice) to a page that shows programs currently on the air by program format instead of station format.

Having said that, it’s not as well maintained as the other “shows on air by station format”. It would probably be useful to add a list of all shows of a particular format since many formats I don’t bother trying to gather schedules for – however, that will highlight all the long since cancelled shows that I haven’t got around to marking as “dead”

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

I haven’t been to http://streamingradioguide.com/internet-radio-by-format.php in quite some time.

There are two issues with it, first, I normally want something to listen to now, and the number of shows column doesn’t reflect that.

Secondly, it I don’t know which category is Jim Bo, or Coast to Coast, or John Batchelor.

What is best is http://www.streamingradioguide.com/streaming-radio-stations.php?formatid=1 but showing any stations that are airing the program, regardless of “station format”. Perhaps station format could be a filter – show me top 40 stations that air Coast to Coast? etc

            • Art Stone says:

You’ve come to the two root causes

What show format is Don Imus?

One reason I avoided this is the resulting arguments over classification – was Michael Smirconish Conservative? What about Geraldo Rivera?

The other is you’re approaching the search looking for things you already know about. A moderate amount of my email / complaints / corrections are from stations or people looking for themselves.

To give a count of the number of “x” shows currently streaming requires maintaining schedules for shows across all show types – most of which have NO visitor interest and are impossible to verify. What is the value if knowing that at 2:16 AM, 137 stations are streaming Blair Garner? [he left the show a few weeks ago)

If you want to start a replacement web site that you maintain, I already make the raw data available with no conditions.

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

Thanks for the most kind offer of data. Let me be 100% clear – I am a very happy user of the site and not complaining. As a regular user, I thought that I could contribute by offering a suggestion. Feel free to take it or leave it… its just from my testing/use of the site that I thought the site could be better… others may disagree.

Maybe we can all vote on how to spend your time, Art. 😉 Just kidding of course – we all recognize the time and effort you put into it and appreciate it greatly.
