“You can’t beat success” was one of the favorite sayings of my Business Administratin professor at Catawba College – Millard Wilson.
As often as he said it, it was never clear if the meaning was “If something is working, don’t fix it”, or it was a warning against stagnation in management of staying with your plan long after its time was past.
WGN-AM in Chicago has been extremely successful for an AM major market station, albeit fading a bit as their 80+ demographic are relocating to Rosehill Cemetary. The new PD has just decided to clean house – he had previously banished Mike O Connell to the Internet, now he is doing the same to Jonathon Brandmeier, the morning guy. There is some speculation that Steve Dahl may be coming to WGN to join his WLUP buddy Garry Meier. Steve and Garry were Da Bomb back in the 1980s, when they used to be on for like 6 hours a day talking about nothing – mostly making fun of the old senile loser hosts who worked at WGN. My clearest memory of Dahl was him talking about his son as the sperm who escaped from the sperm jar Steve keeps by the bed. That son is now old enough to work in radio. It’s not that long until the Steve and Garry’s demo will be 80+, so I guess it makes sense.
Here is an old call from the past… from the Bush clan supporting Nixon during Watergate…. kept secret during the 88 election

Brandmeier – is he still around? LOL. I used to listen to him every day during my 20 mile – 2.5 hour commute down 294. I am not 80 yet, though so no Rosehill for me thank you!
