Planning to go to an NFL game?
You’ll need to carry a see through purse so that the people around you can see your tampons and birth control pills – you never know, someone might try to sneak a pressure cooker into an NFL game inside a big purse.
You can never be too safe. Having people really at the game is becoming kind of not necessary anyhow. – Just paint in CGI fake audiences and canned crowd noise, and nobody will notice the difference. To avoid players being getting head injuries, maybe the games should become simulations of what would have happened if those players actually played the game.
You can’t beat success.
We already have drones fighting our wars (with talk of robot soldiers coming in the future).
I guess Star Trek had it right with the episode “A Taste of Armageddon”. The Enterprise visits a planet where “peace” has been achieved by means of simulated wars. The only problem is, the citizens of each culture have to volunteer to real extermination (via disintegration) when the “casualties” of a simulated battle have been decided.

Rush predicted the future of football is doomed by the ‘do-gooders’. But, this above example could just be another annoyance fans must endure if they support their hometown teams by attending the game at the stadium.
off topic: this article accurately reflects my assessment of the new cable news channel

I don’t get it – propaganda is propaganda and no “new” news channel is going to be “down the middle”. Al Jazeera is a huge effort to acclimate Americans to middle eastern values, like Shariya law and treating women like slaves. If we are to doubt the brainwashing, then look at all the suicide bombers and jihadis from the last decade or so and catch the clue that it is effective and subtle. The article seems to like that populist approach where we are introduced to the little people and how they take on those “big bad” corporations. Sheesh, where have I heard that schtick before?
Sorry CC, not taking issue – just venting.
I really think your opinion is based on not having looked at it.
Qatar is the country that let the US build military bases on their territory for the US invasion of Iraq and supported the US/European destruction of Libya.
Qatar is only 40% Arab and has 13% Christians (immigrant workers). It has a very low birth rate, but is growing from immigration – mostly male workers from India – Qatar was the stepping off point for the East Africa slave trade so there is a long history of contact with India.
The unemployment rate is below 1% and they’re swimming in money from natural gas sales. Alcohol consumption is legal in some places. Per capita GDP is $98k, savings rate is 68% of GDP. It has the lowest illiteracy rate in the Arab world, women have the right to vote. 40% of women work and they hold important jobs in government and business
I wouldn’t want to live there, but Qatar is not Saudi Arabia
I haven’t found that to be the case here. This channel is the America channel based in the US. I don’t think they are promoting Islam any more than Coca Cola is promoting the Southern Baptists in Qatar…. or than Rupert Murdoch was promoting Australian values with Fox News.
Interesting that you brought this up – I spent maybe an hour yesterday on the Al Jazeera America web site. I’ve written about it before favorably – that while it is the propaganda arm of the government of Qatar, they do actually have “boots on the ground” all over the world, and take the time to go into depth in stories. I find its bias less problematic than the BBC – since the pummeling of Libya into the ground, I now have a negative visceral reaction to any voice with a British accent.
One of their first stories was one on the violent crime problem in Chicago – they stated as fact (without stating a source) in the first sentence that last year Chicago had the highest violent crime rate in the country – that’s not only not true, it’s not even close to true. St Louis, Detroit, Cleveland, Oakland CA have a much higher per capita violent crime and murder rate, and Chicago’s current murder rate is half what it was in the 1990s
I submitted a correction as a comment and found that they are moderating comments. The other published comments looked highly filtered to those that supported the content of the story. I didn’t check to see if my comment was published.
