Interesting radio station of the day – WSNR-AM

Maybe I could make this a feature – wordpress can set things to publish in the future – I can just queue them up ahead of time 🙂

WSNR-AM has a few interesting things about it. One is that when the sun goes down, they increase their power! The station is located in Jersey City, NJ, right across the river from New York.

WSNR used to be the flagship station for Sporting News Radio (SNR) before it vanished overnight, acquired by Yahoo!

The station itself sits on a former landfill site in the Meadowlands (I’m shocked!), and according to the FCC filings the area is being “remediated”, which means all the toxic mess is being dug up and shipped to Alabama (probably). Making it all the more of a white elephant is the station is directional even during the day, and requires a 5 tower array, pointing the signal toward New York City.

FCC Filing

This is the web site for the station now http://www.davidzonradio.com/. It appears to be some non-English programming (possibly as a lease).

According to Wikipedia, the station is Russian language and catholic at night… (are there any English language stations in Moscow?)

The station broadcasts in Russian, so does that mean it has only Eastern Orthodox Catholic programing?

Interesting question – I didn’t look into that detail – I may be showing my ignorance but do the Greek (and Russian) Orthodox call themselves Catholic? With the Great Schism the folks in Rome and the Orthodox are not on good terms.

      • Nidster says:

Vladimir Putin adheres to the Eastern branch while most Western leaders suck-up to….’errrr….kiss the ring of the Pope in Rome. So you could be onto something with the idea about there being a Great Schism.

As for al-Obama you may have read my post on another thread where Shadi Hamid Director of Research at the Brookings Doha Center @shadihamid tweeted the following:
“If you missed it, “liberal” Egyptian newspaper has front page headline claiming Obama as full-on member of Muslim Brotherhood international.”
        http://blogs.aljazeera.com/topic/egypt/egyptian-media-says-obama-muslim-brotherhood-member

Oh, for more info on al-Obama, and to show that no disrespect is meant, here is a short excerpt from http://alobama.wordpress.com/about/
“Barack Obama is the Alpha and the Omega, the One, the Messiah, forever and ever, perpetually, in perpetuity, to infinity, continuously, without end and having no end, endlessly never-ending, ceaselessly, interminably, relentlessly, unlimitedly without limit, and on and on. The name “al-Obama” shows that respect for Barack Obama’s unusual name.”

So, maybe He is the One we all have been waiting for. These are indeed strange days my friends, and He does seem to be relentless in His pursuit to kill a lot of humans.

It wasn’t a random thing I made up – the Great Schism has never been resolved and is important to understanding history, but something they don’t teach in Sunday School

          http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/East–West_Schism

Paul (Saul) was a Roman who was task with killing those crazy Jews who believed this Jesus guy was the Messiah. He never met Jesus – he decided (God told him!) that since killing the Jews wasn’t making headway, he would declare himself to be the 13th apostle and hijack the religion. The Roman Empire found Chistianity to be a very effective way of organizing their empire.

The above is more or less the basis of the “Jefferson Bible” – God told Thomas Jefferson that Paul was a fraud and any of the books written by Paul were removed along with any miracles or supernatural spirit things

The Greek church (which is why some of the survivng books were written or translated to Greek from Hebrew) was based in Constantinople. Emperor Constantine decided to move the HQ of the Roman Empire from Rome to the place known as Byzantium, the place we know today as Istanbul Turkey. That also meant moving the ruling bodies of the Christian church from Rome to Constantinople. In relatively short order the Western Roman Empire fell and went into disarray. The Eastern Roman Empire carried on and prospered.

700 years go by… Islam reaches Spain from the South – the Roman church pushes back but lacks the organization and power of the original Roman Empire which is now based in Greece. The leaders in Rome organize the Crusades to take back the Holy Lands, which by the 4th Crusade meant wiping out and destroying the Byzantine Orthodox Church and the sacking of the city of Constantinople to destroy it and re establish that “the one true church” was the one in Rome. The destruction of Constantinople by the Romans left a vacuum which was then filled by the Ottoman Turks as Islam spread Westward.

Some of the Christians who actually tried to take back Jersusalem rather than murdering Jews and Byzantines ended up staying in what today is Lebanon and Syria

Time’s up… I need to go listen to K-Love “Jesus loves me and I love Jesus and that makes me feel good”. La la la

          History is so boring

You might be able to buy WSNR-AM for $16 million if you want

    http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/104736/blackstrap-broadcasting-puts-wsnr-a-new-york-up-fo

I don’t know if the price includes the toxic waste dump. A while back, the NJ turnpike caught on fire when a truck fire spread to the buried underground waste

  3. CC1s121LrBGT says:

Their daytime directional problem is neighboring 610 AM with not only a station in nearby CT, but another station in NJ broadcasting from the Big Timber Creek marshlands.

  4. Parrott says:

I miss Sporting News Radio. Yahoo sucks and they messed up their fantasy football pages this year, Dorks. But maybe it looks pretty on a iPhone now.

  5. Art Stone says:

A clarification – WSNR was the flagship in the beginnin. (hence the call sign), but they started renting out the station in 2003 and moved the flagship to Houston
