You might have heard that there was a 17 state outage of the network that processes “electronic food stamp”
Walmart apparently decided not to impose a $50 limit on EBT while the network was down and unable to enforce spending limits.
The result? Stores completely looted of every piece of food in the store. Walmart is likely to not get paid for the looting.

Does that leave any doubt about the moral character of many EBT recipients?
Supposedly people were loading up their carts, but when the system came back online they left the store pronto. Might be because one woman was detained by police after the clerk rang up a total bill of $700.00 and the card only had a $0.49 balance.
Perhaps they should visit Michelle Obama’s garden where taxpayer funded food is rotting on the vine.
Apparently her “Let’s Move” initiative doesn’t mean she’ll get the daughters to help her pick the vegetables before they rot.
Well its Lose – Lose for the china -mart. Cut the ‘Give-me-Dats’ and they put welfare queen on 11pm news, bitches that she has no food for boyfriend, sorry, I meant kid.
Or china-mart can give the food and hope for re-imburse, doubtful. Lose -Lose.
Goverment out of control, its sort of like the Romans on their way down.
Bankrupt no money, still spending, Fed creating Enron numbers, Government is dragging us down.
Thanks Mr. Obo,
Bitter clinger -> parrott
That was my reaction as well – had Walmart HQ said to announce that EBT was down, they could have had riots, slip and fall lawsuits or wholesale looting of the store beyond just the food
Found this:
Walmart Says Food Stamp Shopping Spree Was ‘Right Choice’
Walmart has no regrets about allowing a wild shopping spree at two of its Louisiana stores when an electronic glitch lifted the spending caps on the cards of food stamp recipients.
“We know we made the right choice,” Walmart spokesman Kory Lundberg told ABCNews.com today. The chain has no regrets even though Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services said food stamp recipients should have been limited to $50 each during the emergency and that Walmart will have to pay the difference.
Lundberg declined to comment about how much the company may have lost or why it did not follow the emergency $50 limit. Shelves in the Walmart store in Springhill, La., were cleared Saturday, when the store allowed purchases on EBT cards that didn’t show limits.
Another Walmart spokeswoman Kayla Whaling said, “Our focus was to continue serving our customers.” Food stamp recipients jammed into Walmarts in Mansfield and Springhill Saturday when word of the glitch spread. Springhill Police Chief Will Lynd said some customers were buying eight to ten grocery carts full of food.
The store in Mansfield temporarily closed because of overcrowding and Mansfield Chief of Police Gary Hobbs said some shoppers left with up to eight carts of food and then went back for more.
The food shelves were left bare and all the meat was sold as well, Lynd said.
The shopping frenzy was triggered when the Electronic Benefits Transfer system went down because a back-up generator failed at 11 a.m. EST Saturday during a regularly-scheduled test, according to Xerox, a vendor for the EBT system and based in Norwalk, Conn. The outage erased limits on the EBT cards.
The EBT system was affected in 17 states, where individuals and households access programs like Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and other programs.

Wonder if da ObamaNation held this ‘gun’ to CONgress’ collective head as to what would have happened if they did not raise the Debt Ceiling?
USDA letter dated Oct. 11, 2013 instructs “States to hold their November issuance files and delay transmission to State electronic benefit transfer (EBT) vendors until further notice.”

So what happens at midnight on November 1st when the EBT folks are lined up at Walmart and their balance says $0.00?
Just casual observation makes me think EBT cards based on phony information are being bought and sold like crack. Have the card and the PIN and you’re in – nothing to sign, no photo ID/name comparison. It’s designed to maximize fraud, and everyone is in on the con.
I would love to see an accurate accounting of how many dead people, minors and illegals are registered and receiving the monthly free cheese EBT.
I have a friend who worked as an intern for Rep. Gephardt back in the 1980’s. My friend was assigned to look into Food Stamp fraud and abuse (this was back in the day of those monopoly money Food Stamps). My friend was able to easily identify billions in dollars of fraud, waste, and abuse. Many of those ‘corner stores’ seen in inner cities were food stamp laundering operations. They paid pennies on the dollar for the stamps (or they traded alcohol and/or cigarettes again at exchange rates of pennies on the dollar). I am certain the number is astronomically higher now.
If you are “undocumented” in one town/state, you are “undocumented” in every town/state. wink, wink, nudge nudge

Once upon a time, I witnessed the Greyhound express from Chicago to Milwaukee for double dippers to go pick up their extra food stamps. Since EBT does away with having to pick up the physical booklet at your “home address”, this becomeS way too easy.
Daily Caller is a great website:

There is more to the SNAP/EBT ‘food stamp’ story other than dirty politics. Starting Nov. 1, 2013 a planned cutback of assistance will mean the 2009 Recovery Act’s temporary boost ends and benefits will decline by $25-$30 per month for a family of three. The increased benefits began in April 2009 and were meant to spur economic growth. Remember when Speaker Pelosi said every $1 in benefits results in $2 or so of economic growth?
In 2010, however, Congress passed legislation ending the increase abruptly on November 1, 2013 instead of the gradual decrease built into the bill. Does anyone remember which political party held huge majorities in CONgress during 2009-2010? No, it wasn’t the dirty, low-down Pea Tartiers.
I do not find anything being included in this latest budget battle fiasco that restores the increased benefits, but I could be wrong. My research found that some folks on social media are saying the recent EBT ‘glitch’ might have been a planned test to see how people might react. Fair enough, but being the cynic that I am, I’ll stick to my original post that it was a wake-up call to remind CONgress of the chaos the current regime is capable of unleashing on America. Remember, Obama had his Administration spend money to shutdown, barricade and prevent people from accessing public places that were always open 24/7. Plus he ordered the shutdown a large number of private businesses.
I can confirm what you said – I read an article a few days ago (probably on Al Jazeera or the Guardian) that people are already crying that their children (who also get two free meals a day at school) are going to suffer from food insecurity.
So with Food Desserts and Food Insecurity there must an issue the Democrats can demagogue in there somewhere. Let’s figure the next budget battle will start in February 2014.
I need an “s” back. No whipped cream for you.
What about the cherry and scoop of ice cream?
Not even water for you – you’re parched!
