They’ve probably been back – but it was my first sighting
Ummm….
Last week, I spotted the lookalike creme filled sponge cake from Sara Lee which had been rumored. It was pretty tasteless – if you’re going to eat nutrition less food, at least it has to taste good! Oddly, the Twinkies today seemed to have exactly the same taste and texture… I wonder…

Maybe those Twinkies seem to have exactly the same taste and texture because they were made in the original factory and were leftovers…..
lol Great minds think alike, Nidster. I was going to suggest that Art check the expiration date. 😉
If you look at the image, it has special material on the box “the best comeback ever”
I was guessing 6 months ago that my first Twinkies sighting would be in Walmart, which was correct. I wouldn’t be shocked if it was a national exclusive contract for a few months. The Pabst beer people may not want to buy back shelf space at supermarkets. People who really yearn for Hohos and Twinkies will be enticed to go to Walmart and give the New Hostess more leverage with the other chains

btw – it is a great site to buy “Wine Gums” from the UK and other products not normally sold in the USA.
The cofounder of the gummi bear company just died.
Wow that is haribo news about the cofounder. 😉
No, I meant the same taste as the bland Sara Lee ones, different than the original Hostess ones.
The implicit speculation is the new Hostess is sidestepping the Baker’s Union issue by doing a joint venture with Grupo Bimbo who owns Sara Lee
OK. Nevermind. Makes sense now.
The convenience stores around here have see a huge push by Mexico’s Bimbo baking products. Across the board the product have greater volume but the same weight. The taste of the one product I tried was somewhere between bland and unexpected. I know, I know what does the unexpected taste like?
With the demise of Hostess, that basically leaves Bimbo and Flowers – Flowers distributes Sunbeam bread – they didn’t have national distribution and don’t have as much clout as Hostess did.
Bimbo sells a line of snack cakes – I assume they’re targeted at Mexican tastes – most have some type of strawberry filling. They took over the shelf space where the hostess products has been. Their bread products seem to be quite good. They’re #1 now with Hostess gone. Bimbo US has their headquarters in a small town in Pennsylvania – it’s how to check if some brand of bread is sold by them.
There are economies of scale by not having each bread brand sending out its own delivery trucks.
Don’t forget Tasktycakes. When I was a kid, they were sold only in the Philadelphia area. I remember a kid in the neighborhood telling me of his trip to Disneyland in California. While there, his mom took them shopping at a supermarket and asked whether they sold Tastykakes. He said the manager replied “All our cakes are tasty, ma’am.” 😉
