Chick Fil A country

Chick Fil A does one thing extremely well – chicken sandwiches. ย  They aren’t trying to be everything to everyone. ย  You won’t find tacos or pizza on the menu. ย The food court here in South Park would be empty if it wasn’t for the Chick Fil A customers.

Chick Fil A has done three things wrong.

1) They are closed on Sunday – not negotiable

2) They publicly thank God for their success

3) The owners expressed a religious opinion about a controversial political subject

From where I’m sitting, it looks like they’re doing just fine.

Republicans could learn a lesson from Chick Fil A on how to stand firm on your best features and not waver in the face of the evil opposition. just sayin’

One thing that kills me about that mall, Tiffany, Brooks Brothers, a Jag dealership as well as the usual subjects. The guys I knew at Boston University chasing MBAs back in the day wanted to live in NYC, lunch at 21, dine at Daniel Boulud’s latest restaurant and order their shirts from J Press, the suits from Brooks Brothers Own Make and Ralph Lauren Purple label on the weekends. I have heard of guys turning down Bank of America jobs because the thought of going into internal exile was too much. Sailing out of Oyster Bay for a jaunt to Block Island or ‘tubing’ on Lake Wiley. Go Countrywide !

Don’t forget the Cheerwine and Lance Nabs.

      And Tom’s peanuts

…and if you get near the NC mountains nearly all the soft drinks (Pepsi, Mt Dew, Coke, Dr Pepper, etc) are made with real cane sugar (and have never been made with high fructose gasoline…I mean corn syrup). I guess those “dumb hillbillies” aren’t quite as stupid as most people seem to think.

…but shhh…don’t let the FDA or Michelle O hear about people consuming that dangerous sugar stuff.

Tom’s peanuts were sold in totally manual vending machines that you would find in gas stations. They were acquired by General Mills in 1966.

The vending machines were frequent breakin targets and vanished. According to Wikipedia, Lance now owns them. They were fierce competitors back in the day.

Ah – actually Nabs were Nabisco. My dad loved those – they just stopped making them at some point. During the peanut butter panic, I asked the Nabisco route guy if they had any plans to bring them back. He said the only product they carry is the mini ritz crackers with peanut butter filling. Blah!

If you’re interested – in Salisbury, there is a condo for sale on the second floor of the old Cheerwine building. Really solid floors.

Yeah I think they still make the Lance products over in Greensboro. They always put at least one Lance 53′ trailer (sometimes two) on a Norfolk Southern inter-model train that goes to Chicago.
Did you ever like ‘Sun Drop’ Art ? That was a Dale Earnhardt favorite. Have you been over to Concord yet ?
A lot has changed their too since the eighties.

If you wanted to create a company today selling headache powders (aspirin and caffeine), do you think the government would let you?
