Web Site on the move

Good day,

I’ve been experimenting with redirecting the web site to a temporary page hosted on google:

https://sites.google.com/site/streamingradioguide/

This probably will cause issues – one of which is your cookies will lose their memory. There could be other consequences as well.

There is a link pointing to the server by its raw IP address

http://71.201.210.94

I’ll probably put it back to normal until Mondayish – the IP link will stop working when I pull the plug on the server, and not work again until I’m safely in North Carolina and plugged in.

See you at the Waffle House!

So far, the redirect only works if you use http://www.streamingradioguide.com – I deliberately set up the server to not need http://www., but that may cause things to break now.

Safe move, Art. Disappointing to learn that you haven’t ported the site to your cell phone so we can use it as you drive…. what are you doing with all of our subscription fees!?! 😉

Thanks again for the service and outstanding site, including this blog.

Have a safe move, Art. All the best to ya!

All the ducks are in a row. Utilities taken care of, apartment lease taken care of, movers to show up Tuesday.

I’m confident there are ways for people to stalk my cell phone 🙂

What I did this morning breaks the blog since it tries to get back to the official domain name, so I set it back for now. I’m thinking I’ll have the ability to edit that redirect page if there is anything worth telling you.

Do take a look at plans not on the exchange – they will attract only people that do not need a subsidy and are not overly eager to sign up. They will be a separate rate pool, and probably have lower rates for you.

      • Art Stone says:

I tend to doubt what you asserted – as soon as you start segmenting the risk pool, you’re back to creating a rating system again.

The only real option there is to split individual and small business into separate risk pools, and that will be decided state by state. I person who runs a business but has no W2 employees is an individual, not a small business.

I think the requirement may still be that companies that will be offering individual coverage will ultimately have to give rates to healthcare.gov for exactly this reason – to prevent risk pools by obscurity or companies setting up shell companies to create segregated risk pools.

        • CC1s121LrBGT says:

My understanding is that with ACA, each insurer has two major decisions to make on a state by state basis: Offer individual policies (Y/N) and if so offer them via the exchange (Y/N). They must be offered via the exchange for members to get a subsidy.

The state require one risk pool per insurer that includes all of that insurer’s plans within that state, whether offered on the exchange or not.

By choosing to offer the individual policies buy remain off the exchange, the major insurers are segregating their risk pool from the people that need the subsidy – people that are implied to be sicker or not having seen a doctor in years because they had had no coverage.

With a 2000+ page bill and 13,000+ pages of regulations, it’s a pretty good guess that nobody actually knows what the rules are at this point.

The only thing clear is that Blue Cross/Shield sees this as an opportunity to dominate health insurance nationwide more than they are currently. My guess is the others will voluntarily give up market share knowing that BCBS will wind up in bankruptcy in short order

As someone (maybe it was you) pointed out, a significant number of large employers are self-insured. The employer selects who they hire and thus create their own risk pool. The role of the insurance company is just to shuffle the papers and negotiate with the service providers. I don’t know where that fits into the future schemes. Let me do some more research

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

Yes. I had pointed out that the employers select their own risk pools (sometimes unions have a tremendous influence).

The downside, of course, is that “able bodied” (what does that mean in the PC / Customer Service environment?) will be unemployable once they incur significant health issues. Sure they can go to the new exchanges and get free healthcare, but that is the wrong incentive for both the good of the individual and the good of the society (the common good).

It is interesting to me that my Democrat friends look at distribution of wealth and want to redistribute it. My Libertarian and Republican friends want to put in place the right incentives for the common good.

Just remember that taking money from one person and giving it to another isn’t stealing when the government does it.

However, I’ve kind of realized in the last decade that money and wealth are a shared illusion. The people keeping score couldn’t be more crooked.

          • CC1s121LrBGT says:

“The people keeping score couldn’t be more crooked.” Especially when the people keeping score are playing the game – the very definition of crony capitalism / crony socialism. Follow the money from the donations, to the company, to the sale of the company at a high price to those that were being regulated:

Let’s have a poll – Will Art get the web site up and running in North Carolina first, or will Sebelius beat him and get her web site up faster?

And what about the enrollees? Sebelius has 6 (six) so far, catching up to Art who has not provided an official count but has at least the following:

Art Stone (runner up Sebiluis doesn’t use her own site!)
      briand75
      CC1s121LrBGT
      Foyle
      haiti222
      HPaws
      lasong
      Nidster
      Parrott
      prboylan
      Randy X. Porter
      TheJerseyDevil

      Sorry I missed anyone.

Haven’t had a chance to read any posts but would like to know if Art will send us a link to the Blog Site and Streaming On Now Site… Or, will they be the same as they were??

The cable was turned on in NC a couple weeks ago. Assuming I make it there and the computers are intact, things should be back to normal by the end of the week. There is a > 0% chance this site might not come back up. I could have purchased another desktop computer and migrated the web site seamlessly but decided that was not worth the effort.

The temporary page on google hosting can be updated using my iPhone when I’m on the road – in the event I’m delayed for any reason or if the computers don’t work upon arrival.

And now for something tangentially related – routing web site requests through the NSA:
