Phil did a bit tonight, bringing on Art Bell to talk about his problems at Sirius/XM. Phil landed at Dial Global after he was able to escape from TRN. But Dial Global / Westwood One is being acquired by Cumulus Media.
Phil’s network audio was dumped twice that I caught – the first was going over the line making up something about Art – but more to the point, Phil laid into the radio business – how it is now being run by cheap bastards buried in debt who don’t evn know how to keep transmitters running and will not let the talent retain the rights to their work. It was a pretty clear insight into how Phil’s talks with John Dickey are going.
Phil was sick tonight and this was an unscheduled rerun from about a week or so ago. The Art Bell bit had run before and I didn’t notice anything different about it. Remember the post at the beginning of Art’s Sirius run when I said he’d retire again within three months? I WAS KIDDING.
An interesting thing is that when they found out Art was leaving, Opie and Anthony spent much of a full day trashing the Sirius XM iPhone app, SXM spending millions for Stern’s birthday, and the company’s alleged plans to move them to afternoons. The next day, they said nothing about it…and there hasn’t been a peep from them about it since. That’s what you call real power.
Okay, I accept that – it sounded pretty current, and would explain how they were able to edit out those things on a “live” show.
TRN’s lawsuit against Dial Global and antitrust objection to the Cumulus merger goes forward next week. There is no TRN left as we knew it. The original talent have all left with exception perhaps of Mancow, but I think he is actually syndicated by Dial Global and carried by TRN – that deal’s details were fuzzy to begin with.
Given the FHU history of tax fights with the IRS, the most recent of which is that FHU is a religion but not a church (which means having to retroactively submit annual financial reports for the past decade) is going to keep the Masters family distracted from rebuilding the network. TRN is a for profit corporation (actually several of them) owned by the Foundation for Human Understanding which is the mind control training “religion” run by Roy Masters. It looks like Roy is going to spend the waning years of his life in rooms talking to lawyers and CPAs.
OK, now is the perfect opportunity for Masters to employ some heavy duty mind control stuff on those dirty, low-down lawyers. If he can get them to dance to his (Masters) tune then maybe there is something to be said for his “religion”.
There is an announcement on the Coast to Coast AM web page, they have a new arrangement with Sirius….. on both XM and Sirius now. Indie 104. There are no coincidences.
