Limbaugh sliding toward Salem?

Recently, Clear Channel dumped Limbaugh from KFI-AM to move him to the former Progressive talk KTLK-AM (now KEIB-AM).

This morning’s news is that Salem’s KTIE-AM in San Bernadino California has picked up Limbaugh. I’m pretty positive Limbaugh has never been on a Salem station.

There is definitely change in the air over at Salem. Limbaugh can’t be happy with Hogan leaving Clear Channel. There was a recent shakeup over in the national sales force – you don’t have to stretch far to guess that Clear Channel isn’t even trying to sell national ads on Limbaugh’s show. A good part of Limbaugh’s compensation is based on national ad revenue.

Could this be the opening steps in a mutual agreed on parting of the ways? Right now, this is just wild speculation on my part, but don’t underestimate Bob Pittman. It may just be the weaker KEIB needed another station in that area.

Remember that former WABC program director Phil Boyce works for Salem

I take it Pittman hates conservatives so much he is willing to let Clear Channel disintegrate into oblivion as long as he gets rid of Limbaugh and other conservative ne’er-do-wells?

Sounds like it briand. Bite the hand that feeds you.
I remember when Limbaugh would announce the name of his new affiliates back there in the early 90’s. We had guys at work that would go out to their car at lunch to listen to him.
Interesting, maybe Salem is a ‘placeholder’ (to borrow a Nidster phrase) of stations for Limbaugh to use if need be ?
      Hmmm

Pretty much. Go to the FEC web site and search on Pittman and you’ll see his long list of very large campaign contributions. He’s a true believer.

Beyond putting together iHeartradio concerts with his Hollywood / music buddies, his vision for radio is fuzzy. Pittman started out in radio as a boy genius program director. He was running WNBC in his 20s. The first thing he did in 1977 upon being given the program reins was fire a guy named Don Imus and Cousin Brucie. He left iWNBC in 1979.
