The True Oldies Channel which used to be syndicated by the ABC Radio Network was Scott Shannon. He has an exceptional standard for the quality of the audio, song selection, and applying digital enhancement to the songs – in addition to knowing basically everything about everyone without having to search Wikipedia.
Cumulus Media, now known as Westwood One, has told affiliates that while Rock and Roll may live forever, True Oldies won’t. Westwood One is starting up a new service called “Good Time Oldies”, hosted by 3 guys each doing 8 hour shifts (presumably still using voice tracking to save production costs).
If you were a teenager in the 1950s, that means you are in your mid 70s now. Expect national sponsors to include denture cream, prepaid funeral services and referral services for assisted living centers.
Shannon’s oldies channel is/was the best of its kind. If it makes sense to them economically, his new employer, CBS, should prevail upon him to start one for them and grab those affiliates from Cumulus.
” He also records intros and bumpers for talk radio’s “The Sean Hannity Show.” ”

Shannon had the clout to force Cumulus to employ him without a non compete contract. During the brief time Citadel owned ABC, he had been VP of programming in addition to everything else.
When I went to verify he was actually on WCBS-FM, there was a substitute host and a morning zoo crew of yukkers, but no Scott. Not sure what to make of that.

Not living in New York, my main impression of him is from True Oldies, not his morning show on WPLJ-FM.
My impression of that video from CBS is that Scott is not starting a new venture as much as starting his goodbye tour. He looks tired, beyond just not getting sleep, no enthusiasm in his voice – just unhappy what happened to ABC and the Dickeys running it into the ground to “cut expenses”
Shannon was born in June 1947, which makes him about 66 according to my math. He’s emblematic to me of the baby boom generation of which I’m part of on the other end – looking at mortality, child raising only a faint memory if at all. The Obama generation has their hands at the controls and we’re mostly along for the ride, hoping the country doesn’t fly off a cliff. So people cling to music of their childhood, plastic surgery and organic food thinking they will live forever.
I just read an AARP blurb that Valerie Harper has lung cancer she won’t recover from. Time marches on.
See, the whole thing about ObamaCare is it will deny care to the ‘elderly’ and therefore wipe out the Democrat’s base, who always warned the Electorate that is was those dastardly Republican’s plan to wipe out the elderly’s Health Care.
See, those dastardly Republican’s plan to wipe out the elderly’s Health Care is coming true, right?
Are there any elderly left? I thought the Republicans had pushed them all over the cliff while they were in their wheelchairs.
Nope! They haven’t found me, yet!
