America Loves its sports as they slowly creep toward 12 months a year. March Madness is now in April, Ice Hockey in July.
While listening to Fox Sports, they played the call of a Pittsburgh Pirate home run, and the announcer had the nerve to use “you can kiss that baby goodbye”, which was the call Bob Prince used from 1948 to 1975. I’ll bet the current announcer doesn’t know what a dinger is and why.
This would be about the same as as the cubs announcer saying “it might be…. It could be…. It is a home run!” And singing Take me out to the ball game on the PA System during the Seventh Inning Rush for the El Train
Let us not forget the “enhancement” Harry Caray had by the good graces of Anheuser Busch in the form of Budweiser for that seventh inning stretch. Or that catcher whose name no one could spell – Joe Garagiola (sp?)
We’ve had “365 days of games” –to paraphrase the movie Gladiator– for at least a few decades… what we now have is two major sports (college/pro) played every day.
Baseball overlaps with: basketball, hockey, football, golf, tennis, etc… which all overlap recursively, along with other ‘sports’ such as NASCAR, Indy, F1, horse racing, skiing, bowling, rodeo, poker, etc.
How many channels does ESPN offer via cable and satellite?
America has reached the ‘apathy’ stage…
Poker is not a sport!
