New Feature – Facebook likes for Shows

For several years, there have been Facebook like counts collected for Radio Stations. Since things are evolving quickly that Shows matter, radio stations don’t – it was appropriate to start tracking shows.

Very likely you will find this list surprising

Facebook Likes by Program

Facebook has really cracked down on fake accounts and buying friends to hype a site. The list will get more complete as I have time to do updates.

That’s a static image – note that visiting the URL above sends nothing to Facebook, even if you do an “update” – all Facebook sees is this web server.

Since a few people might try using this Monday :), I’m cleaning up the data. It’s terrible to see all the local programs and even many syndicated ones that just “went away” over the past few years.

I’m systematically looking for facebook pages now, and that brings up an issue that someone is going to ask about. You will see shows now with “Not Found” but appear that they -do- have a facebook page. For example Dick Morris is on the radio in Philadelphia

but the facebook link on that page is for the station or the entire CBS cluster – so my new “rule” is you only get a facebook count if that facebook page is only for the specific program, which generally means there would have to be some current comment posted by Dick Morris or the show’s producer.

I don’t know if this is related to the fb work you’re doing, but the ‘What’s on now’ list is very short. It starts with Dave Ramsey, and ends with Tom Leykis, 11 entries.

Well, that’s pretty obnoxious, isn’t it? It looks like that’s only the list of “Internet only” programs.

Your speculation was correct. For those who are geekily inclined, I added a “Facebook” URL and Like Count to the Show table with the same names as the existing fields on the Streams table. The result was that the “cache” table which updates “What’s on now” once a minute (more or less) was failing with a duplicate field name. I would have noticed eventually – I’m glad to know someone actually uses that still 🙂
