Don Imus gives Fox the Biz back

Fox Business News just found out Don Imus is leaving Cable TV in 30 days. Currently, the show is a simulcast originating from the New York studios of Fox.

Presumably, he will continue to do the Cumulus radio show. I suspect he will stop doing the show from New York.

It is interesting how many people in the media still think Imus is a right wing Conservative just because he likes guns.

Imus is 74 – and you may have heard he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Imus mentioned today he is moving to Texas

That is interesting. I normally DVR Fox Business New’s first show after Imus. It is Maria’s “Opening Bell” and it normally has quite good guests and intelligent conversation. Guests have said on air that her show needs to start before 9 AM and she smiled and said she was working on that.

Her show does well in the ratings. Before Imus took the slot leading to 9 AM, it was occupied by the person mention in the title of this mediate.com story from 2009 that you can google:

Relative of Larry Glick from WBZ?

It would be interesting to think about what radio would be like with the Internet streaming – but without the post ’96 consolidation if major market stations still produced their own programming [of course, Rush, Bruce Williams, Larry King, Sally Jesse Raphael predate ’96, but Clear Channel vastly sped up the process]

I wasn’t paying close attention but I think Maria and Imus may have a contentious final month

In 2015, this caller would be cut off after about 10 seconds

Probably, but local hosts still seem to enjoy calls from people with very distant accents.

A crazy caller with one of the British accents to a local show, I expect, would still get a lot of air time.

It doesn’t appear that the two are blood relatives. According to the wiki page for Alexis, “She is married to Oren Glick, who is Jewish and the founder and president of Shoot Digital, a New York City photography company.[8][9][10] They have four sons, including Logan, Sky, (born 2001), Kyle, and Slate.”..

        That leads to two questions:

1.) Is Slate magazine named after Slate. (No, unless one of Larry Glick’s midnight psychics was involved in established a time warp.)

2.) Is Slate named after Mr. Slate, a manager in Bedrock? (the more likely scenario.)

I don’t know if you knew this when you wrote that, but Cumukus just had a management shakeup – Lew Dickey is no longer Chairman of the Board – he remains President and CEO. Alexis Glick is on the Cumulus board of directors – Cumulus is who syndicates Imus, of course.

Lew didn’t get any bonus last year. I predict that Suze Orman will run Cumulus some day.

I had not realized that. Evidently she had “assumed that position” in Feb 2013. From this link, she has a quite impressive resume.

I wish her well, she always seemed to be a nice person and is involved in charities (Hope it is not in a Clinton way where 15% of the funds go to the actual charity).

Honestly, of all the (to use the British term) “news readers” I have seen or heard, she never seemed to be among the smartest or even in the top half.

How has Cumulus done since her appointment in Feb 2013?

Today is quarterly earnings report day.

The major acquisitions / trades like the Westwood One & Townsquare deal make it very hard to compare results from different years, which is probably part of the point. The value of Westwood One and the licenses they gave up are highly subjective. It’s pretty much “how much do you want to pretend we made on the deal?”

Regarding the Imus show itself, it often has employees of FBN on the show. I don’t watch or listen to be 100% certain, but I believe some of them are regulars on the show. It will be interesting to see if that continues once the FBN cameras disappear.

Imus has been on MSNBC until his unfunny comments about a Rutgers women’s basketball players…. perhaps he will follow the Larry King show over on RT. 😉

    • Art Stone says:

I’m unequipped to say much, since I don’t have cable or TV. Tom Taylor mentioned Imus relies on FBN for news and other content. His contract runs out in December. He probably has six months of unused vacation.

Cumulus revenue -7% year to year, adjusted EBITDA down 24%. Long term debt unchanged.
