Newt Gingrich for VP?

One of John Batchelor’s guests made the case that Newt would be a good choice for VP. Newt was the House Speaker following the 1994 rout of the Democrats from the House, focused on his Contract with America.

Unlike Trump, Newt knows DC and where the controls of power are located. The initial attempt to oust Newt was organized by Senator Lindsey Graham. Newt has a lot of scores to settle within the “Establishment” of the Republican Party. He is definitely on the short list of possibilities. He also would play well in the South.

Newt’s background is as a college professor – he has a deep understanding of American history. I watched him endlessly in the middle of the night on C-SPAN giving speeches to the empty house Chamber. I would support Newt for President in a heartbeat. If Trump chooses Newt, I go from “what the hell difference does it make?” to pro-Trump. I’m not counting my chickens yet, but this is the most encouraging thing I’ve heard recently.

I like Newt. He will eventually do a few things that will confuse folks and lead them to question why they support him, but this is one intellect I can live with as well.

I concur with that. Newt brings a lot of strength. Like him or not, Trump is exceptionally smart and will do whatever it takes for him to meet his objectives. Another rumor circulating is that he is looking for a Democrat to be his VP.

I don’t see him doing that unless he is struggling. He will certainly continue to go after the Bernie voters but probably does not need to go that far. He keeps saying that the Republican candidate selection was rigged but not as rigged as things are against Bernie. Bernie didn’t have a fighting chance from the get-go Trump likes to say.

Trump’s speech in West Virginia hints at the future. He could have just stayed home as the “only man left standing”, but he went ahead with his speech. The crowd was attentive and hung on every word.

A digression – either the media are back to working from a coordinated script or they are getting really lazy. I suspect the former. As soon as Cruz and Kasich quit, almost every news outlet declared that Trump was the “last man standing”. There are dozens of ways to describe the situation. Is Hillary going to be the last woman standing if Bernie quits?
