War Games

Vladimir Putin has cleared his schedule without an obvious reason. Stephen Cohen has made it increasingly clear that Putin feels he has little option but to directly engage the United States in directly military confrontation, because of both Syria and the NATO buildup of forces and supplies in the Balkans.

A lot of smart military minds sit around “war gaming” scenarios, trying to think what enemies might do, bounded by their capabilities, logistics, resources, alliances and tactics and explore scenarios until a theoretical outcome is reached.

Russian military vessels have been playing chicken with the USS Eisenhower Carrier Battle Group. Let’s war game. Assume these are dry runs for an actual attack on the USS Eisenhower and they succeed in sinking the aircraft carrier in a preemptive attack.

Now you are President Obama, spawn of a KGB breeding program. Your move.

What do you do?

A guest on John Batchelor reminds us the B-52s now have the ability to deliver precision munitions rather just “dumb” bombs. The B-52s are operating in Syria and training operations along the Russian borders

If you are President Obama – you do nothing except apologize to Putin. Each branch of the military is in dire straits now and has been for 8 years.

I remember that poll, and I am sure some of you regulars here remember it It was the one Fred had about Nuklear (Bush pronunciation) war: ‘Parapharse’ What do you do if the Emergency Broadcast system is activated and you see a flash?

There were some classic choices !
Call broker and yell SELL ( classic)
Go to the Liquor or ABC store depending on your state. ( good one, I chose this one)
    check on your neighbor ,
Pick your kids up at school
    Go to church
    Order several Ukrainian brides
    Pull a ‘ 10 Clover-field lane’
    check your preps,
    Buy cigars
yeah I hate to see that Putin is upset. I bet he loath’s ‘Big- H ‘

well, I need to lose some weight, so I think I am going to get the opportunity. I need to order some Iodine from alex,
    yeah were in bad shape

The “view all polls” list has a search function to find a specific poll

      Here is the actual poll

The poll generally is pointing out the folly of the EAS system. In the event there was the type of situation where the National EAS system might be activated, it would only make the situation worse as people start exaggerating the situation and panic. A nuclear weapon fifty miles away is not going to immediately kill you, and if it does go off, getting 75 miles away is not going to change a thing.

One thing Stephen Cohen said the other night which was pure Russian propaganda was that “terrorists” are actively seeking out radioactive material to make a dirty bomb, and one of those going off would cause as much damage as Chernobyl. That’s not remotely true. Chernobyl was an active nuclear plant with fissionable material. It was a massive explosion with tons of enriched uranium. Since it was an active nuclear plant, the core contained byproducts of nuclear fission – cesium, plutonium, radioactive Iodine, etc.

A terrorist blowing up a backpack with some 20% fissionable uranium won’t do a thing. Uranium is extremely heavy and would not travel far. U-235 is not even dangerous to handle unless you bombard it with neutrons. U-235 has a half life of 703 million years. Radiation levels are the inverse of half life. In the unlikely event an atom of U235 decides to decay, it emits an alpha particle that loses its energy after going through an inch of air.

Probably worth pointing out that in the event of a single nuclear weapon, realistically only people in the area need to know. Activating National EAS would put the White House on every Radio, TV, Cable, Satellite channel when 99% of the country would have no need for immediate action. Sure Fox News would be busy reporting it endlessly, but no need for everyone to go rushing to buy bread and milk and clogging up cell phone networks

    awesome thanks Fred !

” Ask to see Obama’s long form Birth certificate ”
