RNC Convention – Day 2

RNC Schedule

With the organizational legalities out of the way, Day two is the meat of the Convention. Paul Ryan will lead the nomination process, then speeches will be given for each nominee. Once Trump is nominated, the process is repeated for Pence as VP. Lots of marching around and cheering.

Wednesday is the free commercial day. Radio host Laura Ingraham will have a prominent position. During prime time, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz will get their moment in the sun. Cruz is not a nominee, so this gives him exposure for the future. In theory, his supporters will be waving We Love Trump placards

Thursday is Acceptance day. Having been formally nominated, Donald Trump and Mike Pence will formally accept the nomination. Then the chair will announce the work of the Convention is complete and adjourn, to reconvene in 4 years. The balloons up in the ceiling are released and the delegates disburse to the casinos to drink and gamble and pick up prostitutes to teach them about morality and family values.

LOL –> “delegates disburse to the casinos to drink and gamble and pick up prostitutes to teach them about morality and family values.”

Heck yeah, I seen some of them when the camera sweeps the floor of the convention. Back in the day ,,,,, Eh, I am older now and don’t want put up with that crap. I am way beyond the 90’s now. ( I mean I am not 90) you know what I mean, I think.

Clarification of the process – the platform committee has 112 members, two from each state. It isn’t proportional to the populations of the states and not necessarily representative of the 2,500 delegates as a whole. Pretty much everyone understands the platform has no actual purpose. Other than removing support for TPP, Trump didn’t really care.

The RNC supports affirmative action on these committees – an equal number of men and women. While I’m confident they exist, I doubt many women are “pro porn”

They are for “small government” just as “Read my lips” Bush was for “no new taxes”, “W” was not for nation-building, and JEB insisted that everyone sign a written pledge to support the nominee… yet people keep voting for them.

    • Fred Stiening says:

Oops – silly spell correction – disperse, not disburse, although the meaning wasn’t all that wrong. I don’t actually know if that’s true – I was hoping to motivate Brian to go on an undercover investigation.

But it’s pretty certain that Dan Gilbert was hoping to milk that cow with his casino a block away. The patronage in not very likely from the 5000 delegates, but from the 15,000 reporters and related support staff.

BS is doing their best to keep hillery a viable candidate , Charlie ‘I’m Bitter’ Rose, interviewed her or whatever she is, and they keeping her on the TV screen.
Amateur hour over at NBC, I couldn’t even watch them for 10 minutes. Brokaw is bitter too.
I would like to have a good cigar. I think I will run down to the tobacco store and get a White Owl, LOL Top Tier back in the day,

I just woke from my nap – the roll call is currently underway. No real chance of a surprise. The nomination of Pence will be done by acclimation (unanimous consent) because he wasn’t in the primary election. That would be done out of deference to the nominee. In theory, the Cruz people might demand a roll call vote and choose Cruz as Trump’s VP, but I doubt that will happen. Pay attention to the Cruz delegations like Texas and whether they have come around to cheer for Trump

    • Fred Stiening says:

Once Ryan declared the official nominees, the work of the delegates is over. The Texas delegation are wearing white hats and Texas flag outfits – hard to miss. They are Cruz people. They also appear to have left the building.

There are three groups of people inside the area – delegates, one alternate for each delegate and guests. In all likelihood, the Trump supporting alternates and guests have moved to the floor and the unhappy delegates are out painting the town of Cleveland red.

The Bush and Romney factions are on the outside looking in. Trump’s challenge is to grow roots so his people are running the state committees and steering legislatures to support him. That’s a tall order. There is no healing happening.

  4. Fred Stiening says:

It’s official. Trump is the nominee. There was a last minute scuffle from Alaska. Each state has different rules, and Alaska’s rules required releasing their bound votes to Trump. Uniform rules would be nice, but the GOP is still very state oriented
