Database damage

It’s one of those days…

While investigating a database error, I reran the nightly FCC update and it deleted every single radio station. Ouch.

Making things worse is there is no database backup, as I broke that a couple months ago.

The server itself is backed up, but doing a full server restore would wipe out the blog updates from yesterday.

I undeleted the stations through magic, but there is a fairly good chance things may be broken, like recent call sign changes. I’m assessing the situation.

So Ubuntu updated MySQL which is now enforcing new security rules, which caused MySQL to refuse to load the FCC data, causing the process to believe there were 0 licensed radio stations left.

I’m probably not the only one clobbered by this MySQL update. At least this is not NASDAQ

Well, it is always something. This scrutiny picked up problems with the handling of FM translators (FX) where there are multiple records for the same translator, which means old information shows up, like which station is being rebroadcast when it has been changed

So much to fix, so little time. Things look OK, I’m sorting through HDx channels currently

Killer. anything you need us to do ?
Check radio stations by call sign ?
or just look through the list and see if anything looks out of place ?

Well, I could use a slave master to rule Virginia as a volunteer. Jaymar is getting his feet wet in Puerto Rico ⛈

I’m still finding little things, but not the things most people care about, like HD4 channels

      • Parrott says:

yeah man, I can look through the virginia list ( and W. VA ) list if you like and see if there is a real station or anything else you need me to check.
        no problem at all

I updated user Parrott to be a volunteer… this allows you to use this page

          http://streamingradioguide.com/adm/needs-review.php

Just filter by state – the page is a bit overwhelming at first – for now all it needs is to check Accurate! Or “ignore Station” if you aren’t sure

Since the server is in the cloud with close to unlimited bandwidth, it doesn’t even flinch if you choose 15,000 stations by accident. You can’t break it – that’s my job!
