Jake Hartford was a weekend host on WLS-AM in Chicago. His real job was working for a TV station during the week. After morning host Don Wade died of brain cancer, Jake moved to mornings during the week. He died very suddenly of a heart attack – no known connection with Hillary Clinton, but you never know.
Twice a year, Jake did a show about the insanity of the process called Daylight Saving time. He challenged people to defend why we do it. This was particularly true back before Indiana adopted DST and created total chaos with the Chicago part of Northwest Indiana and the border areas with Michigan.
Jake would deliberately misunderstand DST and when people would call in to correct him, he would draw them into the fire. He did this so long that some of the callers “got it” and played along, but many did not.
So with that explanation….
Daylight Saving Time starts tonight… remember “Fall Forward, Spring Back”. Turn your clocks forward an hour so you aren’t late for church.
Saving daylight causes global warming.
LOL! Database damage 🙂
Spring forward – fall back. heh, heh 🙂
The good part is now the farmers get to sleep in late
Except in Arizona…
US foods stupidly used Arizona Standard Time for the west half of the country merely because their corporate HQ is in Phoenix. That meant people in California were on California time part of the year, mountain time the rest. Ssystems that were smart enough to handle DST had to be manually changed twice a year to ignore DST.
The irony is Mexico adopted DST to be compatible with the United States even though it makes no sense that far South – but because Arizona doesn’t do DST, the Mexican towns on that part of the border ignore DST, putting them out of sync with the other Mexican border states.
DST also makes no sense in Alaska, but by following it, TV schedules aren’t garbled. Hawaii, PR, Guam, US Virgin Islands and American Samoa ignore DST.
Indiana isn’t totally out of the woods – the Eastern part of the state is on normal Eastern Time, keeping them synced to Michigan and Ohio. Several of the counties that border Illinois are on Central Time to match up with Chicago – but there are a couple towns in the Cental Time area who refuse to use DST creating total chaos – however none are significant in population or economic activity
oh I fell,
LOL Good one!

Two hours early for church?
